But the next time there is a positive prediction thread I'll be sure to drop in a post about predictions being meaningless.

It was a collective observation, not directed at you specifically. And despite what you might think, I'm not even being critical - more just an observation of how people react, and I'm sure I participate in this tendency myself.

People post "predictions" in various forms here all the time, both their own and those of others. I think what some miss is that the posting of predictions does not imply that the poster is saying they are fact or even highly likely to happen. They are simply one's opinion and a discussion generator during the dullest time of the year. Nothing more.

I'm with you here. Some of the INFORMATION here is quite good, predictions and opinions are simply that. Sometimes it reminds me of guys bullshitting around a water cooler. They just need something to talk about and kill some time. Online forums have taken the place of the water cooler and sometimes you just have to walk past.

Quote from: todge on July 23, 2024, 08:04:07 PMThe Bleacher Report had the Giants at 3 wins. I don't get it. They won 6 games last year using three different QBs. This year they have a stronger OL, a game changing WR, a better pass rush and yet somehow they got worse?

When in doubt, always look to Las Vegas who didn't get that empire built by being wrong. The over/under for the Giants is 6.5 and that's a more realistic view of their potential season.

We all know- don't we?- that preseason Win/Loss predictions by the media have no real value as once made, right or wrong, none will return later to claim credit or admit error, i.e. to take ownership. Thus, for that reason alone, we should ignore them, and not continue to repeat them even for our most idle purpose.

However, Ted's reference to Vegas odds-making is fair enough as it reflects a more meaningful and valid purpose.

Cheers!
