Dane Belton feels like he deserves starting job

"Coming off last year, I feel like I deserve this spot — and I'm going to go out there and earn it for sure. I feel like I've earned what I've gotten so far (with first-team reps in 2024). Things might change. (But) if I go out and make plays, it's not going to matter. That's the mindset."

Rich: Yes, that's the ball-hawk I saw at Iowa.

Not being a pure DB, he didn't get a lot of opportunities to show off his ball skills.

He is staking his claim to a starting job and I think he'll get it. I'm far from an expert on defenses, but IMO it doesn't hurt to have Nubin on the same team. Both guys are super-versatile and be used together (even along with Simmons, all at the same time) and the over-all scheme still makes sense.

Bowen's defense values safeties, so the more the merrier.   It would be outstanding for Bowen to have a core of 4 solid safeties in Nuben, Belton, Pennock, and throw in Simmons
