Former NFL QB thinks Jones might be too jacked

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel:

"I know Daniel Jones," said Daniel. "He's trying to bulk himself up because he's a pretty good runner, too."

Daniel then explained why being muscular at the quarterback position isn't the most optimal when it comes to throwing the football.

"I think he'll probably lose some muscle and weight during training camp as most guys do. I was more impressed with Brock Purdy. The dude looked almost like a bodybuilder," Daniel said. "The only thing about being that jacked is. . . look at the best thrower in the National Football League — Patrick Mahomes. Dad-bod syndrome.

"I think there's something to be said about that because when you are throwing, you have these huge muscles and you get a little bit impingement on your shoulder and not able to get the zip on the ball.

"Look at Tom Brady, his talks on pliability. You actually want to go all the way back and then all the way through, because when you're throwing the ball, your arm can only go forward as fast as it can slow down so you want to work a lot of this backside shoulder cuff.

"So, I don't believe in that. They look good but let's see how it happens in the season."

Rich: I've heard that theory before from a college coach or two.  I get it, but every man is different.

Some QB's want extra bulk and strength just to bolster their confidence.

If it makes Jones feel better about his chances out there, at this point in his career I say stick with it.

That being said, the stuff about Mahomes is true but it neither proves nor disproves what Jones is doing.

Mahomes' approach only works for him because (1) apparently, he has eyes in the back of his head; (2) he has enjoyed nothing but success in the NFL so if it ain't broke don't fix it; (3) his running "style" is completely different from Jones's; (4) the Chiefs have to my knowledge no designed running plays for him; and (5) the types of plays when he scrambles, and the type of scrambling he does, exposes him to far less danger than Jones encounters of his average scramble.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Bob,

One thing I think Chase should have emphasized was the weight loss during the season.  I recently heard an interview with DJ where he did say he put on weight, but that he anticipates losing weigh during the season as he has done in the past.

I am neither a bodybuilder nor a quarterback, but I don't buy into his theory that being too jacked may inhibit Jones throwing motion. Large muscles don't necessarily cause impingement and prevent flexibility. You can be muscular and flexible just as someone can have a "Dad Bod" and be stiff. There is more to shoulder impingement than large muscles.

SIX years of theories and excuses about why Daniel Jones ain't an NFL QB.

ENOUGH ALREADY.

Four years of the same for OT Neal.

Again, ENOUGH ALREADY.

DJ can not process the NFL game between the ears.

Neal has very slow reaction coming out of his stance combined with feet of concrete.

Misdrafting in the top six or seven is a franchise killer.

Add in a Peter Principle HC and you don't have to wonder why we lose 40 - 0 at HOME on opening night and throw away 2 wins by NOT giving the ball to this ALL WORLD RB we just lost to free agency.

We just suck or, excuse me, have sucked at evaluting talent....player wise and coaching wise.
