Absolutely NO excuse for Devito to not at LEAST be dressed next week

O line was terrible last game because of Thomas hurt. Otherwise that was the best oline play in like 10 years? I am not sure what you have in Lock. He didn't play much with the Seahawks because of Geno Smiths 32 yo /  having cinderalla story. That was not supposed to happen!

So at the end of the day ... you don't know what you have in Lock or Devito. And you probably won't wi that oline. Sure its been done with Burrow and Tyrod had some success here but, it is not going to be significantly better. Burrow may have had a bad line but, they more than made up for it in other areas like having 2 WR1s. Giants don't have and never did. Although one thing is for sure before last sunday Jones had great oline play ; a stud WR and still didn't score and the Giants did not win games.

You know what pisses me off too? Why don't the same rules apply to Dqniel Jones like other QBs? Like when Shurmur was here it was "if you don't start scoring ELi it's over." Like Who the xxxx is that loser to tell a 2x SB MVP that ? Like what has he ever won? Why doesn't anyone say that to Jones?

Anyway, Devito should be dressed ; given some reps first team and the heads up that he may have to start the 2nd half. Either that or Lock. Anything beats this and paying 20 mil for a Jones injury.

Some people can talk about the O line, but it doesn't matter how good or bad the O line is if other skill position players don't do their job. Here are a few examples.

TE Theo Johnson caught a TD pass from DJ against the Eagles but it was called back because of a pushing off penalty.

WR Darius Slayton caught a 56-yard catch and run two games ago, but was called back because of an illegal procedure penalty.

Wandale Robinson, Darius Slayton and Malik Nabers have dropped several 3rd down passes that have hit them right in the hands killing drives, including two 4th down drops which ended games.

All of this had nothing to do with Daniel Jones, but he is getting blamed for the mistakes and failures of those around him.

Give me a break already. Penalties happen. Yea Kadarius Toney ruined a game winning KC Chiefs frive for lining up in th nuetral zone on some crazy last play lateral thing. Do you see them using that as excuse.

Fact is this offense is so low octane that every one has to be perfect for this golidilocks QB to have everything perfect in order for them to win a damn game!

Said it before I'll say it again -- The league leaders in dropped passes include p nucua; t kelce ; t hill. That should tell you all you need to know about using that as an excuse.

Mike Glennon threw a similar pass as I believe the Slyton drop you are refferring to except he threw it to J Ross... a wobbly duck behind him. He looked at Glennon sideways and was like 'come on mon'. Jones does it and it is why did Slayton drop it. So sick of Mara crearting this Jones cult where special rules only apply....He sends out his loyal beat writers to pump out these excuse ridden fluff pieces....when it is so obvious this is his screw up.

They need everyone else on offense to be perfect so that Jones will have a chance to be average. It's mindless support for a below average player. At some point people have to decide whether they're a Giants fan or just a Daniel Jones fan.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on October 21, 2024, 03:38:09 PMIs it possible that part of it is that he has better options than Daboll does?  The Steelers have a far better organization than the Giants do and have had for a long time.

I don't believe so. It's about recognizing there is a problem and pulling the trigger. 4-2 is a big deal to make a change like that. Devito beat the Eagles last year, Jones cannot. That in of itself would suggest to try it for a spark in my opinion

So Russell Wilson isn't a better option than DeVito??  OK, then.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

He ABSOLUTELY is a better option. I'm not trying to say anything to the contrary. So many people on this board were EXTREMELY sour on the idea of getting Russell Wilson in the off-season. They said he was washed up. I was one of them full disclosure. If we polled them now it would be much different - shows what we fans know (and don't know).

I've just had my fill with Jones. I really like the man and how he conducts himself as a Giant. Yeah I wish he was a bit less "programmed" in front of the camera with his comments and showed more emotion on the sideline and on field...but his teammates adore him and his work ethic and I respect that a ton. Makes me root for the guy hard. But honestly I'd like to see us compete for a playoff spot and what I saw last year with Devito in terms of moxy and enthusiasm was entertaining and made me enjoy watching games. And he won a few good ones too. I don't think he is the future but I do believe it's worth a shot to let him try. Hope that all made sense. It's just been so miserable watching us all try to will Jones to be great.

At this point ... what EXCUSE do we have now to NOT just let Devito play

We are fken 2-6

What do we have to lose ... what I tent world do we have to lose at this point

We have a hell of a lot to lose if we continue to play Jones and he gets hurt, which he often does.

Dave,

No question. Mara has to let Daboll know at some point...that he is coming back and screw trying to win with Jones.

spiderblue43

Injury clause.. it has to come from the top though...Daboll is fighting to win every game, save his job and won't bench Jones unless he gets some kind of vote of confidence. Otherwise, Giants are risking a big salary cap hit

Do we play Jones at risk paying him if he's injured, thus injuring the cap for next year ORRRRRR do we play DeVito and risk winning games and losing draft position (just like last year) to get a top QB?

Me? Play Jones and suck up the ONE YEAR cap hit if he gets injured.
