Quote from: MightyGiants on November 12, 2024, 08:39:15 AMWhat is the point of this question?  Are you suggesting that DJ hasn't suffered any sort of negative impact physically and mentally from being one of the most beaten-on QBs in the league (during his career)?

Do you honestly believe that Coughlin was wrong when he said heavily rushing, hitting, and sacking a QB will have a detrimental impact on his performance (even with greats like Tom Brady?

The point of my question should not be interpreted as challenging you. I simply am asking if you believe this is the reason Jones is now EASILY considered the worst QB in the league OR is it in addition to his processing and severe accuracy limitations?

How did you separate the detrimental impact of all those hits from your assessment that he has poor processing and accuracy limitations?  Didn't DJ's accuracy suffer after the second neck injury?

I can't help but feel like you would prefer to ignore the reality of the negative impacts of all the hits because you would prefer to just blame everything on DJ.

The more important question is why does this thread anger you?  It's appears you want to focus all the blame on DJ and get angry if issues like his historically bad hit/sack rate is even mentioned.

@Trench and @MrGap92

I made my point. Since you refuse to answer questions and don't seem to want to even acknowledge the facts presented in this thread, let us just agree to disagree.

I assure you I don't ignore reality so please don't cast dispersions. For the record, if you look back at my posts on Jones from the early years, I said his processing and accuracy were lacking. That was my opinion and it hasn't changed. The fact he gets hit a lot is a part of the equation but not the key component because as we have seen this year he has had plenty time to throw and still can't get the job done (and he doesn't even have his All-Pro tackle)...but more importantly is his inability to take the hit and rebound to success as Brady and others had learned to do.

That's the thing: once a quarterback has been beaten to the point that he loses confidence, the problem extends past the plays when they are under pressure.   One of the terms I used was "seeing ghosts"

QuoteIn football parlance, "seeing ghosts" is a phrase sometimes used when a player is having trouble reading the coverages on defense, being fooled into reading them incorrectly or feeling pressures in the pocket that aren't there.

I think that the record beatings that caused his confidence to falter had him seeing pressure that wasn't there and vapor locking when under pressure.

DJ, like most QBs, wasn't perfect; he had his strengths and weaknesses, and drafted by a better team, he likely could have developed into a franchise QB with the abilities he has (a point that was also made last week by former NFL scouts Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah).   Greg Cossel, the GOAT of film breakdowns, also believed that DJ had franchise potential.  The problem is all those beatings have resulted in "HAD" being the operational term and tense.

Excellent points made. I agree (just not fully sold on the part where he would've developed into the franchise guy though)...I DO believe he will have a very very good career as a backup and I DO believe like Hostetler, he can win in the playoffs as a backup when expectations are lowered for success to carry a team
