I remember hearing Bob Papa talk about the selection process.  From what he explained, NYG put a lot of work into that list.

The organization did a fabulous job in bringing together the journalists and historians who covered and followed the team. The ten-segment presentation, with each hosted by Bob Papa, and included one of the journalists involved in the research effort (i.e. "Blue Ribbon Panel"), and two of the players within the ten-player segment being reviewed, created a warm dialogue and it was clear the players were all very touched at being recognized as one of the Giants' 100 best.

With due respect to the legends of the past, how are we measuring "great"? Frank Gifford was far more dominant in his era than say, Tiki Barber. But Barber was the far superior athlete. Too hard to measure players across eras for any semblance of "great".

Try thinking in terms of the player's "impact" before/during/after his immediate "football generation."

If Tiki made #14 on this list, while Frank Gifford made #4, I believe it is safe to say that either had a "significant impact" in their respective generations, as well as before and after.
