SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

I was never convinced the Giants were taken a QB if they picked first.

This only re-enforces that.

How can Daboll and Schoen sell the "develop their QB scenario" if they don't get a QB to develop?

Not sure I've ever said that. I think they need "their own" QB.

That could be a FA signing.

I don't disagree with the assessment of after Bo Nix, but nobody knows the ceiling of both QB classes. They're comparing NFL tested against pre-combine and interview players. I actually think Ward has a high ceiling. He's not pro ready like Bo and Daniels, but he's kind of what we were looking at with Drake Maye, lots of talent and big arm who needs coaching.

You didn't. But that has been the excuse for the dynamic duo's dreadful record.  There are really no FA QBs to develop or even transform other than Justin Fields.

That's pretty much my thinking as well. I would hope that they would take Ward if they can get him which is not at all a certainty. In any case, depending upon what happens in the Eagles game tomorrow, I suspect that Sanders will be available to them as is.

Either way, I think they should and will add a "bridge" QB, someone like Fields or Winston while they consider whether to keep Drew Lock for another year as a QB2/3. They have the cap money to also look to improve the Oline and/or CB and DT in FA. That said, I don't see them rolling the dice for McCarthy.

And by the way, those "where would"-type questions are nothing more than bait for some and possibly bate for some others.

Cheers!

Lock is somewhat enigmatic. He had a great College Career but has struggled at this level. I think he's slow to catch on. Even watching him in interviews, he seems country like in delivery. Larry, I'm curious to see if he can have back to back good games.

I know the present scenario is frustrating, kat, but if they don't have a conviction on a certain player, it may be best to wait it out one more year and, in the interim, build the talent on their otherwise lacking roster. Settle for a "middling game manager," if they must, but build the roster's talent base and plan to go all-in for NFL Draft 2026.

I mean, it would be great if there was a Kerry Collins-like player out there to take a chance on, but there really isn't, is there? The QB talent being discussed in the current draft is interesting, but it's anyone's guess if they'll have access to the pick of the litter (NOTE: if they lose tomorrow and teams above them in the "Tank-a-thon" win; funny everyone here has practically given up that scenario that could have them back at #2 just like that).

Let's get the regular season over with, final draft rank-order finalized and see where they end up versus the others to determine the "potential" for drafting a QB in April. Then, look at the FA list again and see who might be a good fit as a "Bridge" as I defined it in the other thread when asked "What does a Bridge QB mean to you?"

Too many assumptions and stinkin' thinkin' before the games are played. We all have every right to those and I feel the same way as you and the rest here. I guess I direct my frustrations more at the very top than I do the GM and Head Coach but, having said that, I place accountability mostly with Mara (and partially Tisch), then to a lesser extent with Schoen, Barnes and all the VPs/Senior Leaders of the individual departments in the organization, then onto the field with Daboll.

If they end up not drafting a QB, I wouldn't see their reasoning as an "excuse," per se, but that they have their eggs in one basket, and that is to go after a franchise QB in the 2026 draft, right or wrong. Given the overall deficiency of talent on the roster, if they use Draft 2025 to improve their talent base, that's a cause I know I can certainly get behind even if it means another poor record next season. If they can only solve the issue with the Lost Man-Games Due to Injury metric, which has again negatively killed any chance for success this season, they'll have no other recourse but to improve.

SI#1: Fix the damned Offensive Line
SI#2: Close the gap between them and their "key division rivals (i.e. PHI and DAL)
SI#3: Improve on their "Lost Man-Games Due to Injury" metric from last year

I cited these three strategic imperatives (i.e. notice QB performance was NOT listed anywhere) as critical for any chance of the Giants to have success in season 2024. For a while, it might have looked like they were making progress towards all three. Then, it all went haywire on them and all became lost causes as they'll finish the season grading out RED in all three. But SI#3 ended up being the driver behind the season going south and it started with Andrew Thomas breaking his Lisfranc against the Bengals. That one injury literally can be traced to the start where the injury list began piling up.

I'm rambling again and I apologize. The point is the Giants will be in the top ten picking in April and, possibly, at or near the very top of the list. Despite the fact they desperately need a QB for the long haul, they also need to improve overall roster talent. If they do not see their future in any of the candidates in the draft, the opportunity to improve the roster and, depending how the games go tomorrow (NOTE: we know Cleveland is getting rocked by Baltimore today), they still can end up as high as #2 if they lose and the Pats and Raiders win).

For the record, if the Giants somehow end up picking #2, I still don't believe they'll take who is still there between Sanders and Ward. Moving down is the way to go and get that draft capital for 2026!

Peace!

The problem is the dynamic duo does not have the luxury of time. They have one year to get it right. The pitchforks and torches are primed now. Another bad season and the presents storm the castle.

I see, hear, and think of him much as you do, Ed. Lock's performance tomorrow could be key (pun intended) to his future with the Giants.

Cheers!

There-in lies the issue at hand. Only one (NOTE: actually two) men have control over that decision and, given Big John's purported track record, and Steve's tendency to acquiesce to John, I wouldn't be surprised if they would be given 2026 knowing that 2025 was a general roster overhaul season.

Stranger things have happened. Nothing surprises me anymore. This is the same organization that drafted Joe Don Looney, Rocky Thompson, Eldridge Small, Al Simpson and gave away Randy White for Craig Morton. So, anything is fair game!

Peace!

There is no way Lock starts next year regardless of what happens tomorrow.  Putting DeVito in ahead of Lock replacing Jones spoke volumes of how they see Lock.  A good performance tomorrow might earn him a contract offer for next year which was probably highly unlikely before the Colts game.  But, it would take a miracle for Lock to do more than that when Daboll's job security woukd be at stake assuming he's stll here next year

Bravo to whoever wrote the the o.p. (it's not clear if Dianna wrote it or is quoting someone else). Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Cam Ward entered the conditional Draft last year and received a 75-150 grade (which is 3rd or later). He withdrew his name and enrolled at Miami.
