If you applaud Mara's decision to retain Schoen and Daboll can you please tell me the reasons you believe it was the right decision. Not that you agree with it but your reason for agreeing to it

Mara has a long track record of good decisions, so why would we think this one wouldn't be another winner?   :P

Seriously, I can't help but wonder if Mara knows the QBs available to NYG this offseason are not great and the Giants have a killer schedule next year.  As long as Mara protects next year's draft picks, maybe he is setting up the two to fail, and then next offseason, you have a new GM, HC, and drafted QB all starting out together (which is a good situation to be in).

Beyond that, I am just hoping I am wrong about the two, and they get their act together and help build a championship-contending team at some point (it seems like a long shot for their year four).

Mara is the Chauncey Gardner of owners.

I confess that I am not familiar with the reference

That's what I think will happen. Play the year with a QB rental, let everyone go next season, and start over.

I think if Bowen (or any of the other coaching assistants are fired), it will prove the saying: xxxx (or feces) rolls downhill

Imagine an assistant being held accountable for their job performance by the two men who weren't held accountable for their objectively poor performance.

Yeah, the last time we had an easy schedule - they made the playoffs. They played one top ten defence that year.

While SOS can't be reliably predicted, it does play a major role in a team's success or failure in a given season.

Oh absolutely. It's also when you play the teams as well.

Obviously I was not privy to any conversations between Mara and Daboll. Unless Mara has his head in the sand I would have hoped that he told Daboll that I will retain you but uynder the condition that you hire an OC who will call the plays . You have to coach the team not call offensive plays . You sare not Andy Reid , you never will be so stop trying to emulate him.

And , go hire a decent DC who has some idea how to stop the run.

When they hired Bowen, stopping the run was considered his strength (same with Wink)

Hope if they go the route of a new DC that person's system and/or coaching helps a guy like Dru Phillips continue to improve or at least maintain his play this season.

Felt like Thibs and some others took a step backward this year.

I would look at the top DC this year and see how and  what they have done . Then I would see who were their assistants and interview them.

Actually I would interview Robert Saleh for the job. He did an excellent job as the 49ers DC and had the Jets playing decent defense.

Seriously, if they retain Bowen that season is definitely destined for failure, in any event.

The only way this works out if an experienced and good DC and OC come in, and a good QB falls into our lap.
And the Draft works out well.
And the injury doesn't hit.

I am not really advocating for keeping Bowen.  Although, big picture, I am not sure keeping him or replacing him will make all that much difference.  First, the DC job will not be attractive; second, there will be a setback due to another system change; and third, Bowen was hobbled by more injuries than the other side of the ball.

PS-  I like your to do list
