Quote from: DaveBrown74 on February 03, 2025, 06:21:59 PMTo my knowledge they have Hutch this year on the rookie deal and then the fifth year option, and Garrett only has two years left. So they don't really have to "pay" Hutchinson until Garrett's contract is up, correct? Gives them a nice two year window with an absolutely dominant pass rush to go along with their high octane offense.

The two of them would make for an insane pass rush combo. They do have Hutch for two more years (and technically Garrett is under contract for two more years as well), but I doubt he'd be happy to wait it out, especially after his injury this year. Garrett will likely want close to a $40M AAV to reset the EDGE market and then Hutch will want close to what Garrett gets.

They'd certainly make for an interesting destination for Garrett though.

Yup solid points.

Garrett seems motivated by a desire to win a Super Bowl, at least in part. He might be willing to be flexible/cooperative if it makes the difference between him being with just a good team versus a potentially great one.

Unless the acquiring team gives him a new contract the CAP hits would be pretty modest, about $5 mil for 2025 and $10 mil for 2026.  But the acquisition cost would be significant.  Assuming I'm reading OTC correctly.  Brown's would have about $36 mill in dead money.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

That the Eagles are even on the mix for Garrett makes me wonder if the salary cap doesn't apply to them. $50 million QB, 16.5 million RB, 2 10+million WRs. The bill has to come due for them eventually right?

It will.  And they will stink for a few years in the future because of this.  But the idea is they will also have at least one more super bowl trophy in their almost barren case so that would be worth it.

On the other hand they had better win at least one because if they fall short and then the window closes none of it will be worth it.

Maybe, maybe not.  Personally I hate the use of void years but it allows teams to spread the money even further into the future.

They currently have void years written out as far as 2035.

C'mon Jim Harbaugh! Get those recruiting shoes on!!

Sentimentally, I'd love to see him help Detroit finally get a Lombardi.

If not them Jimbo and the Chargers or send him to Buffalo.

I want NO PART of this guy in the NFCE!
From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

I still remember:    Garrett's historic suspension follows an appeal hearing Wednesday in which he claimed his brutal helmet attack on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph was preceded by Rudolph's use of a racial slur.

The fact that Garret lied says a lot about his character. Talented player: YES, but False claims should be treated extremely harsh in society. I wouldn't want him on my team

Are there specific false claims?  I find this take interesting.  I mean I see guys get up and act like they caught a ball they didn't all the time.

Garrett is the best defensive player in the NFL.  He is one of the very few that the word "generational" has been correct.  The fact he made a stupid claim to try and save face after a stupid moment is really inconsequential to me.

False claims: "guy gets up saying he caught the ball" is NOT the same as announcing to the league that a player is racist. Not even close. That claim if true could kill a career, it would in essence make that person toxic in a profession that a person works hard to get to.

"These accusations are serious," Tomlin said. "Not only in terms of Mason Rudolph's character, but his professional pursuits . . . It's been a lot of negativity around Mason Rudolph. He got fined $50,000 for essentially getting beat up. His reputation was tarnished for the allegations."

"As we said at the time the allegation was made, we looked into the matter and found no such evidence," NFL V.P. of communications Brian McCarthy told ProFootballTalk.com over the weekend. "There was no sound recorded from the field during that game. As with every game, there were microphones on the center or interior linemen that help amplify the ambient sound as the quarterbacks were calling signals at the line of scrimmage, but they do not record sound. Microphones are opened from the break of the huddle (or when the center places his hand on the ball in a no-huddle offense) through the snap of the ball."

"Garrett, after originally apologizing to Mason Rudolph, has made the ill-advised choice of publishing the belated and false accusation that Mr. Rudolph uttered a racial slur on the night in question," Younger said. "Mr. Garrett claims that Mr. Rudolph uttered the slur simultaneously with being taken down, and before Mr. Garrett committed a battery by striking Mr. Rudolph on the head with a six-pound helmet. His claim is ludicrous.

Considering that none of his teammates had heard anything about Rudolph potentially saying something until they were asked by reporters about it after practice several days later I have a hard time believing him. If he did indeed hear something you would think he'd at least mention it to a few of his teammates at some point

It happened like 5 years ago.  Might be time to let it go. I am guessing Rudolph has.
