Does it matter where in round one you draft a quarterback

President Rick

there's a variable here....it depends on where you draft, and if you cannot trade down [or maybe up] for the guy you want, when you're on the clock you have to fish [no cutting bait].  if a guy you like is gone, move on.  if the guy you like is there but you may be reaching, so what.  take him [as long as his name isn't ward or sanders].  I'm still for waiting for rd. 2 and taking will howard or in a trade down, if he's there, grab dart .

Peter Schager mentioned on his latest podcast that the Giants drafting Dart at 3 (if they like him better than Sanders) wouldn't be crazy.

Watch this YouTube clip with Joel Klatt interviewing Kurt Warner. https://www.youtube.com/@JoelKlattShow

After hearing this you begin to understand what made Kurt and others like him so good. The whole thing about "Pure Progression Football", about 20 minutes in, is well worth the listen. Also, listen to what he says about not only this year's QBs that are coming into the league but also about those in the league.

Quote from: Philosophers on March 13, 2025, 10:43:02 AMThe only way to know if you overpay for something is to know what others would pay for it.  If every other team would not draft Dart until the 2nd round and you drafted at 3 you overpaid regardless of how good he becomes because theoretically you could have positioned yourself at end of first round to get him.

You need to factor "need" into your premise.

Hypothetical: If the Giants are unable to trade up from No. 3 to No. 1, and Ward/Sanders go 1-2, I could see Giants going BPA and then using whatever package they've set aside to move to Tennessee to go from No. 34 up into the first round to grab the QB3 on their board.

That obviously comes with risk. I think they would've done that for Penix last year, but Atlanta shocked everyone. Better be right where you think QB3 will fall.

That nails it.  If you are trading back in rd 1 for Dart, it's a gamble you don't get jumped.  What's safe, 10, 15, 20?  Who else's is thinking the same thing. If he's absolutely your guy, take him  at 3.  Or maybe you want him at 15, but another QB is the same at 34 for plan B.   So many shades to this.
