There have been numerous montages of dance routines, clips, etc from movies that I have posted previously. I have received a few new ones and if anyone is interested, please sit back and enjoy. Things like this are never to be seen in movies anymore.

Maybe the best of the lot is a montage assembled to Uptown Funk

There was the original and then another version of a bit more 'modern' films. then still another.

Len: That's something we hardly ever see any more...  the so-called "movie production number" - a lengthy musical interlude resembling a Broadway show dance scene.

I had hoped after the relatively recent success of La La Land that the tradition might have been reborn, but apparently not.

Especially in the covid era when theaters were close, I had thought someone might have presented Broadway-style entertainment in a movie or two.  It's not the same, of course, but IMO better than nothing.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

For more years than I care to remember, most movie musicals came from hit Broadway shows. The songs became standards both from movies and Broadway. Really, what was the last Broadway show that they made a movie musical about, Mama Mia??  Even hit shows like Hamilton really didn't have any major songs that became standards and surprisingly, no movie version.

Funny, I really didn't care for LaLa Land that much. Maybe because I didn't know any of the songs, but that art form is now dead and buried, only to live on in these montages for old guys like us to reminisce.

That said here is another

I didn't like the musical numbers in La La Land much either, but at least they tried.  There must be some people out there somewhere....

Even the Coen Brothers sense that it's a missing element and try to put musical numbers into their shows, whenever they fit.

However, none of theirs offer much dancing, probably because the actors they use can't dance LOL.

In my 'earlier' days of youth, I was never a fan of movie musicals. Sure I saw Sound of Music and My Fair Lady etc. but I wouldn't go out of my way to see a musical on film. You know, when they released 'That's Entertainment I, then 2 and then 3, I started rewatching a lot of these movies and, as you alluded to, those 'production' numbers were terrific.
For myself, I was never a huge fan of Astaire and never really loved his movies, but I surely respected his talent. I was more of a Gene Kelley guy and liked his style of dance a lot more than Astaire.

BTW, I used to hate those Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland 'let's put on a show' musicals. Can't say why, but I still don't care for them.

Now Rita Hayworth, that is in a different league.

My favorite that's been kicking around on the net for several years. Wednesday teaching Lurch how to dance. Still makes me laugh

The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing
