The one thing I consider with McCaffrey is his size and the pounding his body his already taken. He is so incredibly versatile and unique, but for how long?

But if anyone deserves that contract, it's him.

This allows the 49ers to get away with doing this, for at least 2024 which is the final year of Purdy's rookie contract, in which he is scheduled to make just a tad over $1 million in the coming season, not including the realization of potential bonuses that he might achieve. Starting in January 2025, however, he will be compensated accordingly which will likely require the Niners to make some decisions.

So, if the 49ers are planning to make one more run for all the marbles, and Brock Purdy's the QB, and McCaffrey's the horse he'll ride to the title, 2024 appears to be all-in or bust for them.

It will be interesting to see how McCaffrey holds up this season and if he can sustain yet another outstanding year at peak performance.
