SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

OK, I'll grant you (probably most of you) that the picture represented by this analysis is not very pretty.

But imagine how much worse those four pages would have looked in Daboll's first year (result: playoffs).

Also, this year's schedule is at least a bit less difficult than last year's, IMO.

Thank you, Rich @MightyGiants , for posting this.

While I wouldn't call this a strategic-level Balanced Scorecard, which is intended primarily for measuring key performance parameters (KPP's) at the Executive Level, this is something comparable to what I would find on a manufacturing floor in terms of looking at current-year performance against current year targets. For its intended purpose, he is going into some deep analysis which I hope he will take the time to explain why the correlation of some of this data leads to trends that have been accepted by peers in his industry as reliable.

The report truncates as he starts to get into strength of scheduling. But unlike other analysts, I really like what I'm seeing as it appears he is taking "Strength of Schedule" and, instead of using the start of season ranking as a constant throughout the entire campaign, he is attempting to recalculate strength of schedule at different points during last season. That dynamic is something we've talked about here during last season's disaster; however, looking at data to actually support our estimating is ultimately an exercise in futility, I know, but analyzing it, nonetheless, provides greater integrity (NOTE: this can be debated as well, I understand) to the presenter's arguments.

I look forward to seeing the rest of the report but will be carefully analyzing each piece of information to discern what are "metrics that matter" versus "fluff." I say that with all due respect to the man for his efforts in putting this piece together which I commend him for doing so.

Peace!
