Given HK's ability to tell any story they want, I wonder if the talks with NE actually had nothing to do with Maye but were talks about a contingent trade in the event Daniels was available at 3.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

The JJ McCarthy thread here was probably the longest BBH thread of 2024 (certainly one of them), and yet he wasn't even a vague consideration on draft day.
Agreed. I heard McCarthy interviewed on Rich Eisen the few days before the draft and seemed to think the Giants were very interested. They smoke screened the kid. He was only a second round consideration.

Possibly. Although we do know the Giants had Maye 3rd on their board and had a blue color for him, so it doesn't feel like a huge stretch to speculate that they might have moved up for for any of the first three QBs if the Pats had had more genuine interest in moving back.

I think it should be worth noting that the JJ thread was started when many were saying he was a day-two pick.  The thread was leading the way in terms of considering him a top 10 pick (he eventually was picked 10th)

So, while JJ may not have interested the Giants, the thread did a good job identifying his value

Fair enough. I guess my point was more that it's rare, if not unheard of, for an NGT thread (which it is/was) to clear the 30 page threshold, at least since I've been a member here. Lots of players see their expected draft position move around between the end of the college season and the draft. That happens annually with multiple players.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on July 31, 2024, 02:45:03 AMMy biggest complaint is they completely ignored the post-draft udfa scramble.  I would have found that far more interesting than the girl cousins in the bar and the little girl's birthday cake.

Another thing is that I had understood that once a pick is in they tell the next team who it as they go on the clock.  How could you go on the clock without knowing who isn't available because he is just picked?  Yet twice the editing made it look like the Giants were on the clock but were still nervous about whether their guy was going to still be available.

On balance, I'm not anxious for the Giants to do any flavor of HK any time soon.
As per Finding Giants - they ignored the UDFA scramble because that process is in the hands of the scouts. Each of them contacts the player(s) they have been following and negotiates their signing on the telephone.
