New league year started with FA.  Uneventful for the Rangers, which is fine.  Would have like Marchessault for the deal he got.  If they are moving Trouba, I thought Brenden Dillon or Matt Roy would have been a good replacement, but they both got bigger contracts than I would have wanted Drury to give.

Season opener is 10/9 in Pittsburgh.  Home opener 10/12 vs Utah.  Rest of schedule tomorrow.

Apparently Trouba's wife's residency at the hospital may be standing in the way of moving him.

Guessing none of this was ever discussed or considered upon bringing him in.

Maybe now they will learn to stop giving out no trade clauses like candy.  If a guy won't come here then so be it.  Now the team once again sits there against the cap, arguably becoming a weaker team and can do very little to change anything.

I read that and said, "Too effin bad."  They have enough money, the can afford to hire her some help with the baby while she is working.  Or, he can retire for all I care.   No idea if it is allowed, but maybe they discussed if he doesnt trade him this year, he will accept a trade anywhere the following season?  When I say I don't know if it is allowed, I mean not sure if the contract can be altered officially.

It was discussed. I remember him talking about it when he first came here.  He wanted the 3 year NMC because that was supposed to cover her residency.  Then, her residency was either delayed a year, suspended, but on hold.  Not sure if it was due to covid or if was maternity leave related, but it was extended another year.

I've been an active pro sports fan for over 40 years now. This Trouba/spouse situation is definitely a first for me insofar as its relevance to what the player's team would like to do with its roster.

In related Rangers' news, long-time play-by-play broadcaster, Sam Rosen, announced the 2024-25 Rangers' season would be his last as he announced his intended retirement at the end of the season.

A distinguished media professional for over five decades, the 77-year-old Brooklyn native has covered sports in the NY Metropolitan area, nationally and internationally at the Olympics. He is most recognized as the "Voice of the Rangers," a title he has held since the 1984-85 season when he took over for the legendary Jim Gordon. In fact, Sam credited Jim as a mentor for helping him become the versatile news and sports media professional he has become over the course of his long and successful career. Through it all, he strived to telegraph to his audiences his love and passion of sport while remaining impartial despite his adoration for the Rangers, Knicks, Giants and Yankees.

The interview below was a very nice take on Sam sharing his life story and thoughts about his career leading up to the decision to retire at the end of the season. I strongly recommend it and, having had the chance to say hello to him and Joe at the Coyote game, this past spring, he was every bit the classy and grateful gentleman he presents himself on this video.
