We better replace that kicker whom they failed to realize he practices well but he chokes in games.

@Bob In PA and @T200 I understand where you're coming from. And if the Giants were a normal team, I would agree.

But this isn't a normal team. This is a franchise in the middle of a historically bad run. How do you tell fans they have to invest that much emotional energy, then if the team plays poorly and loses, the fans get blamed for being too negative?

Should the fans be emotionally invested or not? Because you can't have it both ways. This isn't my kid's soccer game where I'm cheering them no matter what. If we cheer hard for the team, then we run the bums out of town when they play like bums. That's why we're called fanatics.

From what I've read on this board the past few days:

1. Blame the reporters who report on dysfunction in the locker room.

2. If the team plays poorly and the fans boo, then the fans will be responsible for any further poor play from the team.

Let's keep in mind this franchise has double digit losses in 8 of the last 10 seasons and hasn't won a division title in 13 years.

This season is up to the players and coaches. No one else is responsible. Not the fans. Not the reporters. The job is to win games. If the players and coaches think they're just rebuilding and winning is optional, then we've already lost.

The teams who do well have high standards and high expectations. The Giants chose to be an organization that makes excuses and has low standards for success. They did that. They have to fix it.

Doc: Good post. I get your point, too, and do not think your attitude as unreasonable at all.

This is a professional sport, the guys are getting paid, fans pay through the nose to attend games and get a snack or two, etc., but we have a lot of young players who make mistakes.

They fought off the opening-play fumble on the road. I think that alone entitles (using the word very loosely) them to one game (against a hated rival) in which they enjoy full fan support for four quarters or at least until they're completely out-of-contention, especially because (for one thing) we're still "in the hunt" mathematically and, at worst, have a chance to take a big step forward.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Great post Doc. I completely agree with every word.
