A Jenga Piece Falling Apart: Unacceptable Performance vs. the Eagles | Defense, O-Line, Daniel Jones

After the tough loss to division rival Eagles, Carl Banks and Bob Papa recorded an episode recapping what they witnessed from the booth at MetLife. They dissect the warning signs they had seen leading up to the game, discussing the unacceptable play on both sides of the ball. Key issues included the defense giving up crucial third-down conversions and the offensive line falling apart without Andrew Thomas. Carl also emphasizes the importance of valuing possessions and highlights repeated mistakes from both the offense and defense.

SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

On the 3rd down conversion issue, "crucial" is carrying a lot of weight, since prior to the Eagles game the Giants were 11th best in the league.  And holding the Eagles to 1 conversion in 13 tries (although the Eagles went 3 for 3 on 4th down) didn't keep the Giants from being crushed.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

A good overall evaluation but let me put it another way. They lacked the focus and intensity the Eagles had coming into this game and it all started with Saquon Barkley and the chip on his shoulder. It drove his team as they fed off of it.

Like Carl and Bob said, if you look at the Eagles Offensive stats outside of SB and you didn't see the game you would wonder how they lost this game. They made big plays and the Giants failed to execute where one player on every snap caused a breakdown. Whether it was an Olineman getting beat and then it was a different Olineman getting beat, or the Receiver dropping the ball and then another Receiver dropping the ball, or a bad penalty calling back a TD or a huge play, or the DB getting beat or a lack of effort, it was one critical breakdown after another. A culmination of warning signs that led up to this game.

One team came on the field knowing how important a Division game is and the other just didn't match up. They didn't value the situation.

Carl is right. The Steelers are going to punch them right in the mouth and they better be prepared for a physical matchup.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

I watched the 1st half of the Jets get manhandled by the Steelers (went to bed at 1/2 time). I thought to myself, self, the Giants better bring their smashmouth FB. Because the Steelers ain't playing. Monday night, bright lights. Let's hope the sleeping Giants awaken.
