Your occupation/ work requirement is not a factor in allowing you to not report for jury duty. In my experience, once there in the pool, a "court clerk" will have no say in the matter, and you won't see a judge unless and until you become a prospective empaneled juror on which occasion you can get yourself dismissed for almost any reason you propose.

What about the folks who work M-F 52 weeks a year?

There are many more of us who have to take off from work, many times without pay, to perform the same civic duty. They are the ones who have to endure undue hardships. A professional sports athlete making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year having to miss a few practices but still gets his game check doesn't fall into that category.
