Of course it would.
But by far the bigger issue for me, and I should perhaps have limited the OP to this,  was the extravagant celebration when securing a first down whilst the team were down two scores.

And, yes, I'm aware this is generational,  the modern day NFL is theatre, this behaviour is ingrained in younger players etc.

On one level, I don't even have a problem with a celebration in those circumstances.

A rallying fist pump towards his team mates, a 'hands-up' gesture to the fans to get them going, type of thing.

But a 'look at me' dance when securing only a first down whilst down two scores doesn't sit well.

Should the lad be publicly flogged or even sat for a play? Hell no.

All I'd be looking at is a locker room veteran having a quiet word.....save the dances until we're two scores to the good, not two scores behind.......type of chat.

I appreciate your insight. Also, I agree with your first paragraph in total, as well as your last, in terms of "look at me," as you stated.

He's young, a bit immature from that standpoint and will take time to work through things.

It would be best for him to continue honoring the #1 jersey to keep everything in perspective so as to not look silly in it in those instances.

But, at the end of the day, his actions are harmless and I'd rather have a player continue to play lights out, and try to light a spark, than nothing at all.

I'm no young pup anymore either, and my days of youthful celebration on the field involved Simms and LT letting it hang loose after big plays. I'd suggest players before that, perhaps Dave Jennings, but those teams had little to celebrate back then.

Great stuff! Makes me miss the old Giants Stadium more and more.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Large parts of that article didn't make much sense to me.

Why didn't they get Daniels?  It's not like they passed on him, they never had a shot.  And oh, by the way, if they had been able to get Daniels Nabers wouldn't even be on the team.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

The point is that there will be someone with a website or the media who will jump on comments like this. It's old news and this guy is bringing it up again.

That's why I like this site.  The reasoning and writing I see here far exceeds this stuff.
