Brian Daboll, with GM Joe Schoen presiding, is the first #Giants head coach ever to have two or fewer wins through 10 games in back-to-back seasons, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

The last time the Giants franchise had two or fewer wins through 10 games in consecutive seasons was 50 years ago, when Alex Webster started 2-7-1 in 1973 and Bill Arnsparger went 2-8 to open 1974.

Does giving it a historical perspective make it seem worse in some purposeful way other than to remind us how unfortunate it was for Daboll to have won COTY and thus spring the Jones trap which has followed?

Of course, in Alex Webster's case, it was hardly a trap as his retread QBs, Norm Snead and Randy Johnson were never to be confused with winners. But I did take consolation in those several occasions in which I was able to shoot the breeze with "Big Red" in Gallagher's on West 52nd Street.

And bringing in the old Cowboy, Craig Morton to help out Snead only made it worse for then HC Bill Arnsparger. But C'mon, nothing good ever happened in the Yale Bowl or right after for McVay and Perkins with the likes of Joe Pisarcik and Scott Brunner. Indeed, except for the two brief periods with Parcells and Coughlin when have lousy QBs not produced one long Giants losing streak after another.

In any case, I suppose whatever point Pat Leonard is engaging, it's with a far younger, much less aware audience.

Cheers!
