Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement from the team's best player and one of their captains:

On move from Daniel Jones to Tommy DeVito: 'It was a little bit of confusion, just wondering what (happened). You don't know their full thoughts behind it. I think we trust the coaches and where they're going and where they think we can go. That's what you have to do. You have to be naïve. You think about the wrong xxxx and then you start playing like xxxx, know what I'm saying?'

That's enough of an endorsement for me.  :ok:

The players like Jones. He's a solid guy by all accounts.  Not a solid football player though. And while Devito may not be better the team will be if they don't have to pay Jones that injury guarantee.

Players just want to win.  You get a sense in Dex's comments that he doesn't feel this move achieves that goal and will likely achieve the opposite.  Players have comparatively short careers, so they don't have the luxury of lost seasons, and they view the draft as the means for teams to find cheaper replacements for them.

I am not sure if two people heard Dex differently or if they are quoting different portions of the same commentary, but here is another report on what he said which takes a different tone

"You've got to respect it as a player even though you don't like it."

Respect > Like

Wasn't it said here that it's better to be respected than liked???   :ok:

Has anyone here ever thought of Daniel Jones as anything other than a hardworking, sincere, unselfish person worthy of his teammate's respect and friendship. Dex being notably one who shares such feeling is naturally disappointed as are we for DJ as a person albeit a now rather wealthy one.

Are we, must we be spinning it for some selfish end? Please don't answer that.

Cheers!

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think you make several leaps in order to infer Dex's true feelings.

You're assuming that by saying he doesn't like the move, it has something to do with performance or winning. There is no evidence of that. There is, however, evidence in the rest of the comments that Dex views DJ as a brother, and so an inference based on the facts at hand would lead one to assume that Dex doesn't like someone who he considers family to be losing his job.

Further, we have no idea the depths of Dex's loyalty or his motivations. He very well could be willing to ride out the season with DJ, wins / losses be damned, solely because he thinks DJ's earned it based on what he's done for the organization.

Either way, any opinions on Dex's feelings or tone are all conjecture.

My first comment was made based on the original information.  As I said, the additional information I posted changes things up.  That said, much of what I said about players wanting to win and how they view the draft still holds true, regardless of the situation with Dex.
