Quote from: MightyGiants on November 18, 2024, 01:34:56 PMThere are things a rank-and-file player can do, but that's not an issue.  When a QB, who is supposed to be a team leader, does the same things, it's not a good thing.

Look, you asked for concerns, that Tweet gave you 10.   Do what those 10 issue what you will.

That tweet gave me no concerns at all. Or "issues". I think its the preconceptions that give some people "concerns" by making these things seem much bigger than they are. And I didn't see anything in those "incidents" that made me think the guy wouldn't be a first-rate QB in the NFL.

Remember this is the same fanbase that got cold feat on a QB who once rearranged Christmas decorations into sexual positions, not the fact that he wasn't top 10 overall talent.

And the infamous "SoB" comment from Trump and Beckham's reaction to the comment.

Schoen's had 3 top 10 picks and spent $350M+ in guaranteed contracts over the last 2 years. (Among the most in the NFL.)

The resource outlay has been insane.

Knowing Jones wasn't the guy, he should've re-signed Barkley and McKinney AND drafted Nabers AND traded for Burns. Tight cap? Sure. But the strategy is strong roster/rookie QB offsetting costs. You don't make a bad roster better by swapping out good players.

Wondering why the Giants O isn't any better with Nabers? They lost Barkley and Waller. Giants D no better with Burns? They lost Wink and McKinney.

Schoen isn't building anything. He's treading water.

Most were so so on resigning McKinney. He was becoming a little bit of a distraction (in my opinion). The biggest mistake that changed our defense to me was allowing Julian Love to leave. He added a lot of leadership and played very well for us

So you abide by the "shut up and dribble" mentality which leads to our best players walking away for not being a robot. Could you imagine of Parsons was a Giants? 75% of this fanbase would be screaming for him to be cut or traded.

Fair point. I guess you can say I'm in somewhere in the middle.

Bleeding talent is often the effectively hidden issue with a team's overall roster building.   Everyone focuses on the draft and free-agent acquisitions, but there is a natural tendency not to focus all that much on the players no longer on the roster (unless they are very high profile like Barkley).   When you consider how challenging it is to hit on pro-bowl-level talent in either the draft or free agency, one can see how bleed talent leads to "treading water" (or worse) rather than moving forward.

That's right MightyGiants. Treading water might be an improvement. If you're simply swapping out good players for new good players AND your draft picks aren't developing AND you're losing good coaches, you sink.

Schoen's taken a massive swing at this thing and the boat's sinking. He showed his inexperience big time and the PC looked like a man feeling the pressure.

Are we so sure the boat is sinking?

Offensively, we have better talent and aside from Thomas (which is a huge loss) we have remained pretty healthy.

We haven't missed Saquon's production as we've seen promise from Tracy. We've also seen a few bright spots from the TE.

Defense has been up and down and needs to be stabilized.

I agree with Schoen that we have a roster to be more competitive that our record shows. The cupboard isn't bare my any means but we do need more pieces to start and for depth.

I agree 100%. But I'm sure, the person who has disagreed with me for the last 20 years will disagree with your comments also.

As I have said before, I am always a glass-half-empty guy and never jump on any bandwagon until I see it with my own eyes. What I do see on the Giants is the start of a core of players who we can win with. Our offense could be potent with a real NFL-caliber QB. We need a bit of an upgrade on the OL but we had WRs, we have a RB, and hopefully a TE. We do need some help on defense, but our DL is good, we have 2 maybe 3 good LBers and we have the makings of a decent defensive backfire ld. This is where we need to concentrate after solving the QB issue. With a real NFL-caliber QB, we can compete and, hopefully improve. Because of said QB, we have t he record we have, no ifs, ands or buts about it.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

I agree with ya'll

NFL Caliber QB gets us competing

There will be needs at RG, Swing, DT, and CB, and they will need to replace Azeez, Slayton, and Pinnock also (I imagine they can resign Pinnock reasonably)

But they have FA and the draft will have more than the QB pick, maybe we get a comp or two? we can address more of these holes/needs, or add depth elsewhere.

Get the QB and we are an offseason away from being a real team.
