The one thing both Harbaughs do as well or better than anyone else is establish a philosophy for their team then create a structure then they get players who fit both.  It's not an assembly of random pieces but a well coordinated integration of the right pieces to fit their system.  Both John and Jim are brilliant at that.  They also get their coaches to believe and work within that structure as well.  Both have produced amazing coaches in their staffs.

If the Giants end up firing Dabs and possibly Schoen as well, I hope they give a very hard look ar Ravens/Chargers coaches with a lot of experience being with either or both Harbaughs as I believe the next great coaching tree will come from them.

Look no further than Mike MacDonald of the Seahawks.  He coached for John then when Jim needed a new DC, John said Mike was an up and coming coach.  MacDonald completely revamped Michigan's D into a highly successful one but when he became HC of the Seahawks the first thing players said he developed was a consistent philosophy and structure, something that had been missing.

That is what the Giants need.

It was refreshing to see competence on the football field. Organizations like Baltimore and Pittsburgh and now the Chargers who very smartly hired Jim H just know how to put together competitive teams year in and year out. The Chargers were a mess last year and now they are a solid, disciplined team. Seeing that last night just reinforced my feelings that Daboll and probably Schoen too have to go.

It's sort of funny.  Yesterday, I talked about how the league seemed to be shifting from hot play callers to more proven management types and culture setters, and people said that was the old way of doing things.

Not only has what was old became new again, but the league is shifting back to the run being more important.  With defenses losing weight and gaining speed and playing to prevent the big pass play, the smart coaches are feasting on the weakness against the run that defensive strategy creates.

Nice guys like Mara and Daboll run the Giants.  We need hard-nosed leaders who are more concerned about winning and excellence and less concerned about being nice.

They are very disciplined teams for sure.  There is no doubt who runs the teams as well.

Todd Monken was a good college coach/OC but I would not call him a savant.  John brought him on and defined the offensive identity he wanted then let Monken create it.  Monken has learned many great thibgs from John.  He along with John have done an amazing job with Lamar Jackson who frankly was a subpar passer a few years ago.

Jesse Minter was a defensive analyst for John then became their Safeties Coach.  John said he was super bright, communicated very well and taught complicated concepts in a way players learned.  He left to become a DC at Vandy then when MacDonald left as DC of Michigan, Jim wanted a defensive continuity as Jesse and Mike worked together on the Ravens staff.  Jesse took the D that Mike created at Michigan and upgraded the pass coverages to extremely well disguised schemes that made Michigan's D a force.  Nick Saban said the coverages that Jesse ran against Bama he had never seen before.  Called him brilliant.  When Jim left Michigan to coach the Chargers, his first addition was Jesse Minter.  In one season, Jesse's Charger's D is ranked top 3 in the NFL.

Giants need to consider all this.

I have said this a few times, we should have gone after Jim Harbaugh when we had the chance.
The KING is in the building

I would feel much more comfortable having him try to pull us out of this abyss.

Either that or call Coughlin and Parcells and have them choose the next coach as a blue ribbon committee

Been saying that for years. Including right here. A lot of posters gave me flak for that. Said Harbaugh was "weird". Or "a jerk". How I wish we'd hired him instead of Shurmur or Judge or Daboll. The team would have been completely different. But of course Mara didn't even try.

I got the same flak.

Some coaches have a way of creating successful units over and over again.  Never on the same timeline but repeated success.

I hope we consider one of Jim/John's guys because that is closest we will get.
