Do we really want Mara making decisions on 1st round picks?  If the GM and HC want to draft a QB, you really want Mara to step in and say no?  That makes Mara the GM

In anything in life there are short term and long term consequences and often they are not the same.

A HC and/or GM may try to sign a FA QB caring less about economics and his rather dismal career in the hope he gives them a winning season.  Then, the HC and GM may draft for other positions (non-QB).  However the best move may be to draft a rookie QB however that rookie QB offers a lower probability short term to help but long term could be a 10 year effective starter.  A HC/GM may prefer to gamble on the expensive overrated FA QB.  Who prevents that?  Someone not playing for their 1 year job survival.  Who is that?  If it's not the owner then who is it?  This matters.

I have a question for those who watch college football.  Did any of the potential draftable QBs stand out this week?

Then the owner needs to tell them to do what they think is best for the long term and their jobs are safe for a couple of years, or fire them now so that the next GM can think about what works best in 3 years.

Under no circumstances do I want John Mara dictating who to sign and who to draft.

It left me with more questions than answers. The first question would be, is there anyone who is in league with Sanders and the second question, is there anyone who doesn't need development or have a major flaw? The third question, is it safer to draft a QB at the bottom of the first round or top of the second for one that would have as high a ceiling as the top three, but can sit a year and be easier to move on from if he fails?

Finally, who is the Kurt Warner of 2025?

Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Then that's the decision that needs to be made.

I don't see a realistic path for the Giants to acquire a veteran who could be considered a franchise QB.  I guess Sam Darnold is the best possibility, but when you consider the support the Vikings give him and the support the Giants would give him, I think it would be ill-advised to think Darnold could be the franchise QB answer.  Outside of that, it seems the Giants' veteran options are "take a flyer on a veteran QB and hope for the best," or you are signing a sub-franchise bridge-type QB.

So with a bridge QB on the roster, the next decision is do you draft someone like Ward or Sanders high or hope for the best, or do you try and engineer trades so you find yourself drafting lower in the draft and taking flyer on QB traits and hope for the best.  Of course, the risk in trading down is that the player you covet may not be there.  I have to think that in the last draft, the Raiders, sitting at 13, would have a chance to draft either Penix or Nix, and we all saw how that worked out.

I guess another option is to do what the Colts did with Anthony Richardson and just overdraft a QB and hope for the best.  Interestingly enough, comparing the metrics, with the exception of the PFF grades, Maye outperformed Richardson yesterday with a weaker supporting cast.

I liked your comments for the first half, as I totally agree a potential lame duck GM/HC is less than ideal.

I just looked at the schedule for the playoffs.  Didn't realize there were so many games after new years this year.

Sign a Veteran Bridge that can mentor a young QB, like Flacco or Dalton and move up from the second round for a QB. There will be at least three available. Draft Travis Hunter in the first round or move down and pick up another second and third.

The Giants roster still has a ton of needs.  If the Giants could trade down, I would favor picking up more picks and using those to get back into the bottom half of round one.
