This is what John Mara said when reporters tried to pin Mara down on what he expects from his management team.

Quote"I obviously want to show significant improvement over last year, but I'm not going to make any specific guarantees or demands or anything like that," Mara said Thursday after a joint news conference with Hackensack Meridian Health.

"They know what I want to see," Mara said 100 years to the day his grandfather, Tim, founded the Giants for a $500 investment.

"I have a lot of confidence in this particular team (Daboll and Schoen). Their communication is great. I think we've added some good pieces. Now it's time to show everybody."

We have discussed why we think Schoen and Daboll should be retained or fired.  I guess the question is, did they meet the expectations of the man in charge?  Have they missed those expectations to a degree that their jobs could be in jeopardy?

The significant improvement that he (and many of us, myself included) wanted to see was record and better play on the field. Clearly those things didn't happen. It could possibly mean one or both of Schoen's and Daboll's jobs.

However, we are out of this chapter of QB Hell. That's a step in the right direction in my book. The next step is to suck-cure (secure) a top pick in the draft to hopefully pick the franchise QB we've been desperately needing.

There's a lot more work to be done but QB has been the biggest question mark for six years now, spanning two GMs and three coaches.

"We're going to build this thing the right way... I'm not going to do a Hail Mary for self preservation. We've got a plan in place and we're going to stick with that"

-Giants GM Joe Schoen on potential roster plans and spending for the 2025 season.

I mean, at a later date after saying this, he said they were staying.

We'll find out soon enough, 5 weeks form now.

Actually, Mara's words were more nuanced than that:

Back on Oct. 23 when things were bad, but nearly as bad as they are now, he said:

"Obviously, we're all very disappointed with where we are right now," Mara said at the Paley Media Center in Manhattan. "But I'm going to say one thing: We are not making any changes this season. And I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason either.

It's fair to say that Mara said he wasn't planning on an in-season firing.  However, the use of the word "anticipate" left Mara plenty of wiggle room to fire one or both and not conflict with his October endorsement.  He could say he didn't anticipate the embarrassment in Germany, the release of Daniel Jones, the Carolina fiasco, the Turkey day whopping, not winning a single game for the rest of the season, and so on.

A firing of one or both is still very possible, regardless of how any of us feel. Whatever happens, or doesn't happen, let it be for the good of the team.

They've rid themselves of one horrific decision that set the franchise back.

I guess the choice for Mara is whether or not there will be other decisions to make.

We will see.
