Interesting question but Daboll took a below average roster to the coach of the year not too long ago and now most want him gone.

I'm not sure, but it seems like people here think the roster that lost to Minnesota 28-6 in week 1 was above average.

At the start of a season, at the end of the season, or a weighted analysis?  Think of how much Andrew Thomas influences the answer to this question.

It's been a long time.

2016 at full health was probably close to average. We had spent a ton of money on the defense in free agency that year and had some pretty nice if not extremely good players at the time like Collins, Snacks, Vernon, and Jack Rabbit (among some other solid ones).

On offense, Beckham was still in his prime before he started getting hurt, and we still had Eli (albeit he was beginning to fade). Shep was young and a pretty decent complimentary receiver then too (may have been his rookie season).

That team did go 11-5 too, and while I'd argue it wasn't as good as its record, it was probably at least average if not slightly above average.

Probably 2011 that won the superbowl.  Probably the last time i went into games thinking we could best anyone.

The 2008 team, until plax firearm incident was Probably the best giants team of my life.

Used to, but not anymore.

Peace!

Well, how about we start with any Giants' roster which, from player one through player "n," was "above average." Which teams come to mind?

1990 Giants: mature core, mixed with young, vibrant players from the 1988-90 drafts mixed in, and a few free agents who found a new lease on life. That may have been the most balanced example of an "above average" team the Giants have ever had since their legendary teams in the late 1950s to early 1960s. They played together as a "team" about as close to perfect as a team can play with a mastermind of a head coach who yielded his greatest coaching accomplishment that season which put him in the Hall of Fame.

If you really want to top that effort, the dominating 1986 Giants would meet the criteria when you average out all the players. But for all the dominating players they had, there were also plenty of average players as well. But their average talent was definitely above average.

Coughlin's Champion Giants' teams were always competitive, and the talent was there. I would go out on a limb and suggest the 2008 Giants, take away the injuries (i.e. Osi, Plaxico) and  that was an above average team which had the best chance to repeat out of all the follow-up Championship seasons. That one left a hollow feeling and a bitter taste which took Super Bowl XLVI to completely heal. But that 2008 team was something else! The 2007 Giants may have been closest to "above average" but the 2011 Giants were not. That season was Eli Manning's finest and he put it on his back to lead the way.

Other teams which were "close" to above average, but just short, would include:

1985 Giants
1989 Giants (lots of young kids stepping up in a transition year)
1993 Giants (last hurrah before falling back into mediocrity)
2000 Giants
2005 Giants

I think that's about all I can come up with that are close or actually make the cut.

Peace!
