Woody Johnson shows what a real nightmare owner is like.

If you subscribe you can read the entire long article:

For those who don't

Imagine an owner who nixes trades because the player's Madden rating isn't high enough

Imagine an owner who insults players in the locker room (along with his teenage sons)

Speaking of his teenage sons, imagine if they had a major say in how the team was run

Imagine an owner who invites his business friends in to interview employees and make recommendations on how the team is run.

Those are just some of the low-lights of how Woody Johnson runs his Jets

"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Some player(s) should record the Johnson Family insults and anonymously post them online. When he confronts the team afterwards everyone stand and declare "I'm Spartacus".

Our situation has gotten so bad that I really can no longer look at any other organization from top to bottom and then come away from that feeling better that "phew, at least we're not those guys."

There are teams like the Jets, Panthers, maybe the Raiders, maybe the Browns, and perhaps one or two others that I don't think are in much better shape than we are, but I don't feel like any at this point are in much worse shape. Not when it comes to clear, demonstrable ineptitude over a very substantial sample size of years.

Jeff,

I have thought about this comment since you made it.  I can't really argue that the results not all that dissimilar.  Yet, what is striking to me is that you have two owners on opposite ends of the spectrum.  On the one hand, you have Woody Johnson, who is simply a malignant person and doesn't care what damage his actions have done to the organization.  Mara is on the other side.  John Mara is a good person who has let his loyalty to friends, employees, and family cloud his judgment to the point that it harms the team.

As I said, I have been pondering.  I wondered what sort of lesson could be drawn by the unusual parallel.  The best I could come up with is that if owners don't put winning and excellence as the clear-cut number one goal, the results will be bad.  It doesn't matter if you just give in to your baser instincts like Woody or your better angels like Mara; things will simply not go well.
