Quote from: PSUBeirut on January 15, 2025, 09:40:39 AMWith Mara's recent comments about firing anyone he suspected of tanking, I'm guessing one of the reasons Schoen didn't trade McKinney (and especially Barkley) is because he valued his job.  There would have been no clearer indication that the Giants were intending to blow the season up and tank then trading away both of those two.
That's not tanking. Losing teams have been trading away older players for years to add younger assets. It doesn't mean they're trying to lose on purpose. Tanking is throwing away a game or games by trying to lose on purpose by dropping balls, calling plays that they know won't work, knowingly putting players in position to fail.

I thought I remember reading that they received a 5th/6th for Ojulari from Atlanta but they wanted a bit more.

I think Slayton is the embodiment of overrating your own players. I'm not massively surprised there wasn't much, if any, interest in him.

I have to agree.  On an NFL team is not getting all that many snaps.  Even less on a playoff team.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on January 15, 2025, 10:23:05 AMSuch a petty response, and totally unnecessary. Particularly for an admin.

If you don't like that response, stop putting down others you don't agree with by suggesting they are just fans who don't understand "reality."    It's amazing how comfortable you are in terms of being rude, condescending, and insulting, but you feel like you were horribly wronged when someone dares point out your boorish behavior.

This was the shot you took that I am referring to:

QuoteFans' perspectives on trades tends to be more from a fantasy or Madden perspective and often don't reflect the realities of actual trading in the real world NFL.

Us "fans" are not as stupid as your comments try to paint us.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Stringer wrote. He made a general statement about fans without singling anyone out. You just being overly sensitive as usual.

Quote from: killarich on January 15, 2025, 10:26:19 AMHow did Engram play this season? I know last season he played well
Based on targets and yards I would say not well, looks like he missed 8 games.

There was interest in multiple years at trade deadline for him and the Giants never pulled the trigger- then let him walk

Take the pick and le them add up

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 15, 2025, 09:10:43 AMOne thing that Joe Schoen does that has hurt the team is not trade away players who he doesn't plan on bringing back before the trade deadline in seasons that are clearly lost causes.

He held on to Barkley and McKinney and let both walk, and all the Giants got were meaningless wins that hurt their draft position and a 4th round comp pick.

This year, Schoen held on to Slayton and Ojulari (who was healthy at the time) rather than trading them away.  With the Giants likely to sign more than they will lose, there will be no comp picks for either.  So if Schoen doesn't bring either back, it will be the continuation of letting talent walk for no compensation.

I would be a mistake Schoen needs to learn from, but the only way this lesson really applies is if the Giants have another lost season in 2025.

Rich, this is one of the things that make me question Sheons future as a GM. There are other issues as well, but if YOU KNOW a player is not in your future plans building the Giants roster, then why dont you get something for him? We have let player go that have some value, for absolutely nothing. Azeez Ojulari is gone IMO, and I think most if not all here feel the same. And with Thibidouex not living up to where he was drafted, and if we dont get a QB....I would be ok with Abdul Carter as our pick in the draft

100% spot on Rich!...and I'd say there is no way they weren't valuable to a team. Even a late round pick would've sufficed.
