Should the Giants sign Slayton?

DaveBrown74

Do you want the Giants to sign Slayton?

Why or why not?

Until the Giants can effectively replace the player's productivity, knowledge base and positive team impact, especially when times get difficult, I would make an honest and serious effort to retain him.

Now, if he wants to go elsewhere for a payday, and isn't interested in investing himself in trying to be part of the revival of this organization, then I respect his right to pursue that course and will always wish him the very best.

Slayton has always been a good trooper and one of the few flickers of light in the darkness that's been the Giants over this latest Wilderness Years drought.

Yes, pursue resigning him. Caveat: provided he can accept a fair and reasonable offer that will align with his role with the team now that Nabers is the top dog.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Depends on the draft and if they can afford him, and the plans for Jalin Hyatt. They need four solid top Receivers. Someone will almost always be injured.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Does he want to come back or does he think he can have a lower key Saquon success elsewhere? My gut feel is he will go no matter what we try.

He'll likely command double his salary.

He's not a 1 but he's a nice piece.

It's decisions like this where dead cap hits really bite you on the ass.

I care more about resigning Imhir Smith Marsette to continue returning kicks.

We need something more than Slayton, I'd be estactic with a ton of the FA guys, even the cheaper options like Joshua Palmer.

He's not worth what he'll want.

Spotrac puts his market value at 3 years for $47 million. I wouldn't sign him for half that amount.

Keep him. He's been a loyal Giant and has a lot more talent than he is given by shortsighted fans who no longer have patience due to losing. Cut him, and we need to replace him, which means drafting an unproven rookie, relying on Hyatt, or pay more for a FA receiver of Slayton's talents. As a reminder, Slayton is taller, faster and better route runner than Hyatt...and more consistent. Plus, he takes pressure off of Nabers

I have always believed that a team should find ways to keep their loyal and proven players...unless it is simply financially unfeasible
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

We have literally nobody else of any significance to sign, and we won't next year either. Our cap situation is perfectly fine. Slayton has been one of our more consistently durable and reliable players (at any position). Obviously he's not a star, but he won't command anything close to star money. He's a solid, consistent player who generally stays on the field. How many other Giants can you say that about?

I see no reason at all to not sign him.
