Evan Neal will move to guard per NBC sports.

Trench

Great decision. Let's hope it materializes

He only has one year left with us. For three years I always got the vibe that he doesnt want to be here and we dont want him either. It seems obvious. The switch to guard is a salvage operation imho. He will probably go to the Eagles and revive his career  :boooo: . We put a ton of negative energy on these OL who bust, but the common denominator is us, the position changes, poor coaching, then throw in injuries.

All improved after leaving, couple other i cant name off the top of my head.
Carmen has improved things, but this young man or "lion" needs a fresh start more than just about anyone.

Anyone think he's too tall to play guard?  His "bend" was one of his fundamental problems as a tackle.

Although IMO plenty powerful enough, he's not a short man.

You get play guard if you can't get low,

Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

There had been hints from Schoen and Daboll that this was coming.  Best case, he wins a starting guard position and our O-line improves

Now let's watch Ds run stunts where he has to chase DL.  Not optimistic

spiderblue43

Could Neal be worse at guard than tackle? Wow..that's hard to imagine..but I think it's a no brainer.

I'm not optimistic either..just average I'd sign up for. That might be folly  <:-P

Let's hope for a Mekhi Becton type of situation I guess.

Or Flowers.  When the Giants finally parted ways with him, he became a serviceable NFL guard for other teams (the Commanders and a team in Florida, maybe Tampa Bay)

I'd do cartwheels if Neal became a "serviceable guard" at this point.

Flowers was a horrid tackle too, so who knows.

What I don't get is why this hasn't been tried already.

Unfortunately, we do not have Jeff Stoutland coaching our OLine.

I would be lying if I said I had not thought the same thing on more than one occassion.  Starting with the time he made the remark about fans going back to their miserable lives flipping burgers or whatever it was.

Why do certain folks here start mewling before they are even pinched much less kicked in the crotch? Perhaps, they think of it as "forward looking". Or is it just being highly perceptive in anticipation?

Hmm! Okay, that should give me something to think about, huh? Unless you think of it as a bit sarcy.

Cheers!

Robert Gallery sticks out to me. A great OT in college, so great he was taken no.2 overall, right after Eli who went no.1 overall. He was regarded as "the best lineman to come out of college in years", by Peter King in Sports Illustrated, getting the highest grade for an offensive tackle in history. Gallery, the leader of the best line in the country playing for Iowa, won every award and accolade given to college players and was twice named first team All-American. Interestingly, the height and weight of Gallery (6'7 3/8, 327lbs) is almost identical to Neal, same height, but 15 lbs heavier (bigger thighs and ass)...lot of "sand in the pants" as Kiper uses to evaluate guards, as the secret of finding a great guard. Which bodes well for Neal being a successful guard, if having a big ass is the secret of success

Anyway, Gallery couldn't handle the T position in the NFL and got the label of "bust", after allowing 10.5 sacks in 13 games. However, he was moved to guard and became a solid NFL player on the OL. Kudos to the Raiders for getting him out of the OT position and into a guard after 2 years...unlike the Giants who spent 4 years trying to get a square peg to fit a round hole
