Jolly Blue Giant

Did you know that the New York Giants (baseball team, not the football team; hence, the word "football" added to the name to accommodate the city's football team) were the New York Gothams. Keep in mind, baseball was King of the World in American sports long before football came along. Anyhoo...the NY Gothams had a power hitter named Roger Connor who held the all time home run record for decades before Babe Ruth beat it out. Conner was 6′3″ and weighed 220 pounds and in the 1880's that was huge. Because of it, the Gothams changed their name to the Giants. An alternative theory as to where the name derived (albeit suspect as the tallest building in NYC was 11 stories at the time) comes from teamnameorigin.com, "Tim Mara, the original owner of the New York Giants in 1925, named his team after the National League MLB Giants who were very popular at the time. This was an era when baseball was by far the most popular sport in the United States, and Mara wanted to capitalize on the name equity that the local MLB franchise had entrenched in the locals. So how did the New York baseball Giants get their name? They were named after all of the giant buildings (don't think so   :suspious: ) sprouting up in New York City"

Did you know that the Syracuse Orange (Orangemen was dropped in 2004 to show respect to women's sports) original colors were Pink and Pea Soup Green. Hence, looking for more manly colors, they chose Bold Orange and Navy. The moniker of "Orange" had nothing to do with oranges (the fruit) regardless of the fact their mascot "Otto the Orange" is a walking orange fruit

Did you know that the original name of the Dodgers was the Brooklyn Atlantics, the Brooklyn Superbas, Ward's Wonders, and the Robins before they became the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. The name stuck because in order to go to the baseball stadium to see a game, the fans had to dodge trolleys to get there

After the NYC baseball teams', the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers, left NYC for California, it left city fans both sad and frothing at the mouth angry  :angryfire: . Some older fans of those teams (much older than me) are still angry about it. Regardless, to soothe the pain of those fans, MLB expanded to give the NYC fans a new team called the "NY Mets" and their uniforms are Dodger Blue and Giants Orange

There you have some useless information to chew on  :hmm:
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing
