I fear BBH is in danger from a real life Bond villian

Elan Musk, a man who has used his vast wealth to turn himself into a real-world Bond Villian,  seems to have decided to use his vast wealth and power to destroy Twitter.  At least, that is what seems to be happening based on all the news currently out there.

BBH (with nearly 7500 followers) counts on Twitter to recruit new members, be relevant in the Giants fandom, and we lean heavily on the Twitter auto-embed feature in our content.  Nearly every new topic is automatically Tweeted to our followers.

I am quite concerned about the impact this move will have on our forum.  I will do all I can to salvage things post-Twitter, but I am not sure I can replicate what we have been enjoying for many years.

Evil Villain?  nah is just cut out the excessive fat and layers or ignorance, ensuring in time everyone has an equal right to free speech.  That may sound evil to some people but it is something that is or should be quite common in this country.

Twitter will survive and be just fine, it will just stop being one sided and a true open forum when he is done.

Paul,

Who told you those things?

Are you aware one of the first things Musk did when he bought Twitter was to slander the spouse of a political figure with a FALSE news story?   You know the one who was the victim of a political hate crime (or as you would call it a political freedom of speech crime)?   Is that the sort of world you want to live in?  One where the truth doesn't matter and hatred and all the horrible things it brings are encouraged?

How many companies that will be "just fine" close all their offices for 4 days because of a massive number of employees quitting????

And let's not forget Twitter stomping all over free speech, suppressing information and targeting anyone with a conservative view for years.

Twitter before wasnt all about truth, it was mostly all one sided.  Look at the Hunter Biden laptop story as proof.  Anything vs a conservative was spread like wildfire with little to no fact checking

Look how people are banned for their word but the ayatollah in iran isn't banned for his hate speech.

If you think Twitter was a fair and equal platform prior to Elon buying it then enough said lol

It will never be perfect just as this forum to many opinions and beliefs and views, but that is also what makes freedom of speech so important.  As soon as you start selecting which opinions ideas and views are to be silenced what do you have?

Breath easy Twitter isn't going away.  You may find when people can post and not be silenced more will eventually come.  They will lose some initially and that purge may be good too.

He has been slightly more successful then us, he MAY just know what he is doing.  Relax till there is a reason not to relax unless you are looking for a reaction.  Then keep it going.

Paul,

Are you suggesting that propagating hate and dangerous misinformation are "conservative" values?  I refuse to believe that, which is why I don't agree with the claims you are making.  The people banned by Twitter prior to Musk's hostile takeover were all guilty of lying or propagating hate speech.

I also think it's more than fair to say I know a bit about IT, Twitter, and social media than you do, so I don't see why you feel so comfortable telling me I don't know what I am talking about when it comes to the fate of Twitter.

So suppressing the Hunter Biben laptop story is a lie?  Can't wait for the hearings to disprove that!

Prior to Elon taking over answer this honestly?

Did Twitter suppress the info on Hunter Biden & "The Big Guy"?

Did they go after parents who advocated for a voice in their kids schools?

Did they allow the ayatollah to continually to spread hate speech about killing Jews and wiping Israel off the map while banning others for their views and opinion on following the constitution as written?

Just answer yes or no.

Bill and Paul,

Was it wrong for Elon Musk to you the power of his money to spread lies to slander a victim of a political hate crime?  How can you be comfortable with a man like that in charge?  Have we really reached a point where honesty and right and wrong matter less than political and ideological alliances?  Are you okay with the N-word being used on Twitter which happened after Musk took over?   Are you okay with Twitter being used for hate speech and lies?

Bill,

Why don't you believe in the 4th Amendment?

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Was it your plan to steer this into a political discussion?
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

No I wanted to share my very real fears and frustration with the people here who could be impacted by these events.

Some people just can't put aside politics.  There are other fears that I didn't even go into.  Musk could eliminate embedding.   He could eliminate auto posting.   It's quite possible Twitter will simply fade away like My Space.

It's frustrating to have a man so powerful he can harm all of us on a whim and baffling that some are cheering him on.
