Purple didn't register with me.

Another pretty easy one, including purple.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Did you mean at this day's puzzle specifically, or overall at this game in general?

Very interesting question.

I assume the overwhelmingly vast majority of those doing both puzzles are NYT readers. Broadly speaking that's a well educated, intelligent subset of the population, so I'd be a little reluctant to think I'm materially better than average. I tend to be decent at word games (less so at math/number games), so I would like to think or hope I'm maybe a little bit above average but I would not suggest that I'm materially above average, and if I'm more just roughly average it wouldn't surprise me at all. If we were playing against a random selection of the entire US population I'd feel completely differently.

I personally think I'm a bit better at Connections than Strands overall. I think part of that may be because I enjoy Connections a little bit more, usually. I like both games but with Strands I sometimes feel like my performance depends considerably on how patient I'm feeling right during the time period during which I embark on doing it. The clue option in Strands tempts my laziness/lack of patience sometimes, such as today. Since you don't really have that option in Connections, that game kind of "brings out my best" a little bit more than Strands, I think. I get a feeling of satisfaction when I tackle a tough Connections puzzle. When I get through a Strands puzzle it's more like a feeling of completing a task I had to get done.
