Tommy DeVito looked a lot closer to QB2 than QB3 today.

Again, it's an OTA in May.

But I wouldn't be running DeVito off this team so quickly. #NYGiants

I thought Tommy DeVito was far & away the best QB at practice today. #Giants

Daniel Jones didn't do team drills*

The Giants were 3-3 last year when DeVito started and 3-7 when he didn't. He also had the best QB rating of any Giant QB last year at 89.2. I personally don't think he will make the opening day 53, but he deserves the opportunity to at least compete in camp and the preseason.

Don't forget the Giants also signed Nathan Rourke, so we need to see how he figures into all this.

They have four QBs. Assuming Jones is healthy enough, he will be the starter, and then of the remaining three one will be the backup, one will likely be on the PS, and one will likely be sent packing. We'll see what happens.

Jeff,

Do you think DeVito would make it onto or last on the PS?

It is certainly my lean that he will not get claimed. I'm sure plenty of teams would love to have him on their PS, but I tend to doubt by the end of the summer any team will want him to be on their opening day active roster. Injuries or an incredible string of performances by DeVito in the preseason could change that, but my base case is that he'll make it back to our PS.

Could he get poached off the PS during the season? Yes, possibly, but that's the case with lots of PS players, and it's just the way it goes.

One of those losses should be discounted because if my memory serves, he basically wasn't allowed to throw the ball that 1st game

Fair enough.

We also saw the Giants win one of those games when the Pats kicker very suspiciously pushed a sub 30 yard chip shot (in the final minute or two with the game on the line) wide right.

Either way, the original point about DeVito deserving to be taken seriously stands.

The two biggest stats for me this season for the QB position will be EPA and BTTR. If those two go up we will likely win some games.

I think DeVito should be the starter, not Jones or Lock

Those two have issues and should fight it out for the back up positions
Both guys have talent but have spotty to suspect NFL records

DeVito has poise and the it factor. The Dallas loss was a joke, and he was replaced after what I assume was an undisclosed
head injury from targeting by the worlds champs of targeting- New Orleans.  I wonder if they still pay bounties

Of course it matters not what anyone of us think.  Mara, Schoen, and Daboll will decide who plays

Jones may suprise us but after 5 years of futility its not looking good

The definition of insanity is to keep repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Jones would be a terrific change of pace against teams vulnerable to the QB run.

Jones has all the tangibles but seems shell shocked from all the pressure and sacks he's taken over the years

Reports are that Lock also has pocket poise issues

Only Tommy D seems to be able to remain calm in there whatever is thrown at him

If DeVito is exposed to waivers I suspect he will be taken in a NY minute, and I believe
NE will grab him.

MG,

Further to this, maybe the pickup of Rourke was intended to be a potential insurance play in the event DeVito fails to clear waivers and make it back to the Giants' PS.

I suspect they also wanted an extra body in the QB room this spring just given the fact that Jones' health is still uncertain (albeit he seems to be well on track to be good to go).

Don't be surprised if they keep three on the roster initially. A long shot but it's possible until DJ proves he can not have a setback.

Ed,

That's exactly what I was thinking as well, why couldn't they just keep all three on the roster?

I guess time will tell

NFL.com has Daniel Jones ranked 29th out of 32 probable starters in 2024.  How did we get in this mess?  With a 29th ranked QB your season is logically pretty much over before it starts.  Gettleman gave us Jones and followed up with Barkley.  Unless Jones re-invents himself he has to go as did Barkley before we can get back in the conversation.

Despite all this Im going into the season thinking playoffs. Somehow, someway we will overcome the problem

No one, not ever Jones and the Giants can say how Jones will play (between recovery from the ACL and on-field inconsistencies).  So how exactly did you and the NFL network determine where Jones is ranked???

The problem is we have seen from OTA footage is this guy doesn't even practice looking off the DBs and safeties. The more I see of him during drills the more it becomes evident. I pray I'm wrong

I've wondered that same thing myself.

Do the coaches not see that? Or do they not understand you have to look off the safety?

Or do they see that, but because it's just an OTA they don't care?

It would be nice if a beat reporter would ask that question so that we could get the right answer?
