He's paid to be a Giant. If he can't cut it then cut your losses. Entitlement age

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 31, 2024, 06:27:42 PMIt's funny how fast love can turn to hate.

Just last offseason, most Giants fans were beyond excited about Waller. The viewed him as a major addition to the offense and the big play guy that the Giants had previous lacked.

Then he goes on to have a 2023 season that, quite frankly, was pretty similar to his 2022 and 2021 seasons.

Now everyone wants him to hit the bricks as fast as possible.

Funny how people talked themselves into believing that in 2023 they'd get the 2018/2019 version of Waller instead of the 2021/2022 version of Waller.

Reality is a bitch.

Jeff,

I don't think this is a case of love turning into hate.  I think many fans, I believe rightfully so, are tired of Waller not making up his mind and committing to either retiring or playing.  It's one thing if the man was distraught and trying to deal with the end of his marriage, but still making music videos suggests Waller is more than capable of functioning.

Waller was always a crap shoot.  The Giants got a player who, just a couple of seasons prior, was one of the best TEs in the draft for just a low third-round comp pick.   There was hope he would be happier with the Giants and that he could stay healthy (although I think in light of the Giants' horrible track record of keeping players healthy, we all knew it was a bit of a pipe dream) that Waller could be the number one receiving threat the team has been missing since the departure of OBJ.  In training camp, it looked like the Giant's luck had changed, and Schoen's trade was a good one; then, just for the Dallas game, Waller once again injured his hammy, and things took a downward spiral from there.

"There was so much promise, just watching him last year,'' Brian Baldinger, NFL Network analyst and former NFL offensive lineman, told The Post. "We all watched him in minicamp and preseason and we all thought 'They haven't had anybody who could run like this and they could target' and he was such a dud. Have the injuries caught up to him? Whatever personal demons, broken marriage, all the stuff that's going on, as a teammate you can't really ever check out on a player. Players make their own decisions but if you're hinting at retirement at this age, I just don't know that you can count on him at this point. It feels like he's checked out.''

Maybe he's just saving his body. If he wanted to retire, there is no reason not to do so. His guarantees all hit LY.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Waller has 10,525,000 reasons not to retire. That is his salary for 2024, which he would forfeit if he did.

Quote from: madbadger on May 31, 2024, 07:52:34 PMThis is getting old. Players are allowed to have interests outside of football. The dude is going through a very public divorce. Let him cope how ever he wants to.

It is gettin old, for sure, but for different reasons. The reason Waller is going through a "public" divorce is because he's consciously making choices to release horrible auto-tune drama ballads and speak on podcasts about it. This could be private and easier, but his actions don't allow that to happen. He has no one to blame but himself.

I really wish the Giants would just move on from him. He's washed.

It's how he chooses to handle it. Considering his past demons I'm glad he decided to deal with it by writing a shitty song but and the end of the day he's a human being not the property of the NY Giants and it's fans. It's ok to not have to have an opinion on his off field pursuits.

Well said.

Most fans think of him as a player with a commitment to the team. I get all that. He left the field last season with an injury and nobody knows his status, except the Giants, which is more frustrating. I get that, as well.

But this story speaks loudly of his human side which has a history of substance abuse. God bless him that he fights the good fight every day to stay clean, but understand that fight takes a toll. His recent divorce takes another toll. Being an NFL player, and conducting yourself as an NFL professional requires great discipline and rigor, both physically and mentally, where emotional Well being doesn't always get tended to. It has nothing to do with money. It has nothing to do with acting out. He has a life decision to make that will affect the rest of his life and that stress, on top of all his other issues, he could very well be one thing away from saying f#@k it and start using again. If that were the case, then by all means I'd rather see him write songs and channel that stress in other productive ways.

He's a good guy who helps other people. I want him to make the right decision for him, period.

The fact the Giants are giving him the time and space to allow him to make that decision is a credit to them.

The decision will come and that will be that.

Peace!

We gave up a 3rd round for this? Just when I thought Waller couldn't do any worse....then comes this "song".
What do you think Kelsey Plum is thinking? I feel bad for this guy, what the xxxx was he thinking.

Sigh. He's not ready to give up that paycheck. Mentally, he's not in it. In his heart, he's not in it. He'll play half the season and will be a total non-factor.

Yup. Same thing happened with Solder.

Even though it doesn't suit us, it's hard to blame these guys for not being willing to pass up that kind of money.

If that were the case, then I would expect the team to cut him and put someone in who gives the Giants the best chance to win. If what you are suggesting is true, and the Giants keep him and he plays half a$$, then Daboll should be fired.

Simple as that.

Peace!
