Does anyone here believe Tommy D really got a fair shot last year?

Giant Obsession

Quote from: Painter on June 29, 2024, 09:12:00 AMYes, and quite clearly so do those whose opinions actually matter.

Cheers!

Let's see....that would be the Head Coach, the Offensive coordinator. and the play caller.

Goodness he was 3-1 as a starter for a very flawed team

Give me a Brake

The Dallas game they would not let him throw it
The Saints game he took severe head shot

Daniel Jones was 1-5. and a human tackling dummy.   Deer in the headlights-its

Who could seriously argue Daniel Jones was the better QB???  What universe does that compute in?
What was he better at?  answer- nothing

As for Tyrod I cannot get past changing the play to a run and handing Buffalo a victory
not real bright

Tommy was thrown to the wolves when Tyrod took off head 1st and got clocked
In turn DeVito ran the offense like he was a veteran with no 1st team practice aforehand

In retrospect what he accomplished was remarkable.

Jones has looked serviceable at times

yes

beat the Commanders, Patriots and Packers

QBR- 89.2.  8TDS  3 INTs

lost to the Saints but personally I believe played concussed
no evidence to support that other than the violence on the helmet to helmet collision

Also he looks like a real QB out there, poised and confident

Jones looks like a guy trying to go up on the down escalator

The team was +11 in his 6 starts.  16 takeaways to 5 giveaways.  The team went 3-3 in those games.

Great job by the defense in those games to get takeaways.  Good job by the offense to not give it away.  Of course as well noted in this and other threads about Tommy, they didn't really let him throw it.

Why are you choosing to not count his starts against Dallas and Philly?

you're right he did start Dallas, my bad
I don't think he played the whole Philly game

Whatever, he acquitted himself well in his short tenure
Who knows what the future holds

I like his style.  The team played well for him.  If not the Giants, I hope he gets back on the field somewhere in the NFL.  We shall see where this goes.  Was he perfect, of course not.  He brought a little sunshine to an otherwise dismal season.

He started against Dallas, played poorly, and lost.

He started against Philly, played very poorly, got pulled as a result of his poor play while the team was losing, and the team went on to lose the game. Tyrod Taylor played better than DeVito did in relief (8.3 YPA vs 3.4 YPA).

DeVito was 3-3 as a starter, with two very poor starts to close out his run before the coaches finally decided they had seen enough and wanted to go back to Tyrod. That is how it played out. The 3-1 claim was false.

Whooooa! Whaddya mean Cutlets got shot?  Oh, excusa..you mean did he get a shot? Yes; he did get one out of an emergency and proved his backup ability.

The more they got him on tape the worst he played
I also think he stopped throwing downfield.cause he didnt want a turnover
That being said
D jones better throw downfield about 7 times a game if possible

These posts always make me curious: What makes you think there isn't an open QB competition?

These coaches and front office members spend all day, every day around these players.

After endless evaluation, Jones is the clear stater, Lock's the clear #2 and DeVito's the clear #3. Just like after endless evaluation they gave DJ a $40M contract. They were intentional, careful and calculated.

DeVito gets a chance to show he's the best QB every single day he reports to work. The rest is just tinfoil hat nonsense.

Endless is right 22-37-1.  it seems endless
19-19 at Duke....must have seemed endless to the Blue Devil fans too

Stop- he is starting because they drafted #1 and are paying him a King's Randsom......his play on the
field ranks him 32nd of all NFL starting QBs

DeVito looked like an NFL QB and played well.....Jones looks lost out there.

Jones will most likely wind up costing Daboll and possibly Schoen their jobs

We were saddled with Barkley and Jones going nowhere......I don't see a Jones revival. and Barkley, who often jitterbugs for no gain is right where I want him- In Philly.   Gettleman!   Thanks Dave!!!    Im not getting any younger here DAVE.   Endless losing must stop

Devito stunk.  His linsanity run was fun, the most fun of the entire season to be honest, but he was not good by any stretch of the imagination.  It's not his fault, he played about as well as he could have given his level of talent.  And he probably out played Jones (not exactly a high bar to reach) but he wasn't good.  To suggest otherwise is disingenuous.

The Giants have 3 QBs on their roster and none of them are good.  My bold prediction is next year all 3 of them will be on other teams or out of the league entirely.
