The Giants got Burns at what I consider a fair price.  The Giants gave up a high second pick and some day 3 draft capital not to get Burns but for the right to sign him to an expensive (but reasonable) free-agent contract.

I appreciate some fans don't fully appreciate the cost, but we saw on Hard Knocks that the Giants understand.  When the Giants were talking about the possibility of franchising and trading Barkley, one of the staff mentioned that there would be the draft capital given up PLUS the cost of signing him to a veteran contract.

Even the comparison of the two first-round picks needs to be seen through the lens that the Rams would have received one season with Burns playing under the low-cost rookie contract.  The Rams would not have offered the same amount this offseason because that was gone.
