Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on July 11, 2024, 10:09:35 AMI think it's well established that there's a year 2 exit on the deal.

Until that time passes, Eisen's report isn't going to be right or wrong. He readily admits that "they might have to play him next year".

I'm not sure how Eisen's out of character comments have been debunked.

Ed,

Could it be possible that Rich or someone who talked to Rich got wind of Schoen's visit to the Patriot's suite, and the rest was all extrapolated?   My point is at the time of the report, was it accurate to say the Giants had "buyer's remorse," not did the Giants try to get a QB?   Considering the strength of the draft class, where the Giants were drafting, and the fact that the Giants' contract was structured with a two-year out, it would have been GM malpractice NOT to explore drafting a cheaper, younger, and hopefully healthier QB.   I would argue that such a move is not the same as "buyer's remorse"

Maybe, Rich. Maybe.

Although if you're $40 mil QB plays six games, surely a tinge of remorse ought to valid?

Either way, I think this is rather out of character for Eison, so I tend to believe he genuinely heard what he stated.

All three starting QBs last season got hurt.  If there was remorse, it was partly remorse of the Giants doing as they clearly needed to protect their QBs better.

Wasn't Tyrod injured on a scramble rather than down to the line?

If you don't think it's fair that the Giants would have any remorse that the guy who played 16 games in 2022, returned to missing significant time - as he has done in every single season as a pro, that's up to you.

Yes, an atrocious figure. There's many reasons why Jones failed last season, outside of one truly outstanding half of football.

The PFF podcast the day after the Seattle game made him responsible for 6/11 sacks. I haven't paid attention to see if they provide figures for the sacks of all his games.

Other factors that play into the lack of success

The schedule was a beast compared to '22 when he faced one top ten defence al year.

Barkley wasn't explosive either and that didn't help him out

Couple the injuries, to the tough schedule and lack of Barkley threat - I think it's fair to say they might hold a bit of remorse around the 47mil cap hit they'll endure this season and the subsequent dead money they'll swallow should they cut him next spring.

Until that time, and in my opinion, both theories on the remorse/lack of remorse can exist.

We are kind of getting off course.  I didn't include (because it's hard to look up) that Jones faced the quickest (by a significant margin) pressures in the NFL.   The bottom line is you can subject your QB to historically bad pressure and expect them to stay healthy

Yes. He time to throw was quicker by about 0.2/0.3 seconds from memory.

Which is what, half a footstep considering these guys are running 40 yards without pads, in 4.5/4.6 seconds.

I am talking time to pressure, which is different than time to throw.  Time to throw isn't all that helpful of a stat since there are too many things beyond the QB, such as scheme, the need to scramble away from pressure, how quickly your receivers get open, etc, that impact that stat.  I was talking about how quickly pressure was applied to the QB, which is an excellent indicator of the quality of the protection a QB is receiving.  In this stat Jones had the quickest pressure by a significant margin compared to the entire league (including his fellow Giants QBs0

Apologies. I did mean time to throw - sorry.

I still thought it was under 0.5 seconds and closer to 0.3 seconds. But again I could be wrong.

Quote from: MightyGiants on July 11, 2024, 09:02:07 AMRich doesn't seem to be willing to admit his report was off.  In fact, he is suggesting that somehow what we saw, might prove he was right.

Hard to take these guys seriously when the sidekick seems to think that Jones has had 3 major knee injuries and no one corrects him.  Or when Eisen says, essentially, that his report that the Giants were done with Jones was based on a third hand account of Schoen talking to the Bills about the #3 pick.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.
