Nice to see, he looks good and is working extremely hard. Rooting for the guy.

I will also point out every single pass rep here he was locked on the receiver. The guy has a mental block in that area. Shame on the coaches for not realizing this

Well, to be fair there was only one receiver out there.  LOL
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

Plus he wasn't even locked on.  Look at the video, he is frequently looking off the receiver.

Not what I see at all

To me, the look-off-the-safety stuff is highly important, but I find it meaningless in something like this. This is essentially a couple of guys out having a buddy toss. This is more about Jones continuing to feel increasingly comfortable on his knee. Which includes the pocket mobility stuff (which you see here) and also the act of throwing, which includes planting on the knee.

I want to see him look off the defender in real game situations or, at least, in 11 on 11 situations in camp as a starting point. Whether he does or doesn't in the above video doesn't mean anything to me. As AZ points out, there was only one receiver, and I would add to that that there are no defenders in this video either. So even if we saw him looking to the other side of the field just before throwing in the above video, that would not lead me conclude that he all of a sudden has this skill down cold. It kind of doesn't mean anything either way (to me at least) until it's a game situation with multiple receiver options and defenders both rushing him and in coverage downfield.

Understood. But what I'm inferring is to at least pretend there is another defender/reciever...I see Rodgers do it constantly while dropping back to throw

I couldn't disagree more. Habits and routines are extremely important. He has a horrible absolutely horrible habit of locking on. To correct any bad habit it takes patience and effort in practicing it in some form as many times as possible so it becomes second nature

I get your point and don't disagree with it in principle. I just don't view what I am seeing in this video as a real "practice." To me, it was more like two professional athletes playing catch, or working out, and I just don't view it as a serious, meaningful thing.

Tom Brady used to play catch on the sidelines in real games, sometimes throwing the ball pretty hard, while the Pats' defense was on the field. We can find footage of this if you want to, but I promise you he wasn't looking off the imaginary safety when he was doing this.

Let me put all of this a different way (and I kind of said this in my earlier post): if you watched this video, and Jones actually WAS looking the other way from the guy he was throwing to, would you suddenly believe he has gotten over that problem and feel great relief and optimism that it won't happen anymore in real games? I sure wouldn't.

Fair enough, u are right, it wouldn't say he has corrected it if he was doing it in this drill. My frustration bears in the fa t I rarely if ever see him at least practicing" it except for one clip Rich posted a month or so ago where Daboll I think mentioned it.

I love everything about jones except this stubbornness or bad habit he has and my concerns over not throwing it deep and an uncomfortableness I have when he has to go the entire field in a big spot.

Understood - makes sense.

Play 1- too short to tell

Play 2- quick pass, look off not particularly practical

Play 3- looking straight ahead then rearing and throwing to his right (a look off)

Play 4- a drill not a drop back (actually turned 180 to make throw)

Play 5- Ditto

Play 6- Ditto

and so on

I really don't know where you got your conclusion from

The 5th example shown can and should never occur in a real game.  Watch it again.

He would have to start with his back to the line-of-scrimmage.

However, I DO get the point.  Make him practice getting his bearings under the most extreme circumstances possible (however unlikely that they might occur).

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

I get my conclusion from what I perceive my eyes are telling me. Same as everyone else. In my opinion, play 2 can be practical while dropping back. Train the eyes to look different ways is all.

Play 3 was what I need to see more of. Play 4,5,6 although drills, can easily incorporate some eye and head movement. This is where I draw my conclusions from. Look I'm not a professional coach - most here aren't. All I can do is watch other QBs practice this stuff and compare it to our QB and what I see is drastically different is all.

Again, my sincere hope is that I'm dead wrong. But watching Hard a knocks and reading body language and how things are said, I believe Shoen isn't as confident in Jones as I thought he was either.

DaveBrown74

I can't believe I'm actually micro-analyzing a mid-July two man buddy toss that could easily be with a Nerf football on the beach, but does Jones not look off the defender on the throw at 0:39?
