It's not the amount or when it was built but the end result.  Cowboys stadium was built before Giants and it is superior.

HKS paid attention to important details in their design guided by an owner with a concept.  As one example, a ceiling that is open on 3 sides to create airflow and to capture onshore ocean breezes is brilliant.

That caused a sun glare delay. They raised their appropriation and they have a lot of debt. It does come down to how much you want to spend. The investment in sunny LA is sound because of the year-round venues that they can take advantage of. Outdoor concerts and venues in East Rutherford are limited because of weather. Of course, if they had put a roof on it... I get your point, It's beautiful. But it's easier to have a vision come to fruition with one mind, The Giants-Jets compromised and settled. Rt 120 separates what could be one large contiguous campus. Several failures at the theme park/mall and the Arena was abandoned. It's not just the Woody and the Mara/Tisch's Grey Lady but the Sports Authority and the State of NJ that never got together to create something spectacular, Hotels and Casinos inclusive. 6 Flags is closing. It's at least an hour from Midtown. The Meadowlands instead has an overpriced kiddie Park. At least they fixed the traffic nightmare of Giants Stadium and put the Railway in.

Agree about 1 vision.  Again that is part of the problem in NJ which should have been solved for ahead of time rather than spend and build a horrible product

What is interesting is that the vicinity around the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ, where the Cardinals play, which is managed in part by the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, has recently been built up to include a "Mattel Adventure Park," a new Industrial Park, which is in high demand, and plans for a Phase two which will include family residential homes:

There are also plenty of hotels, shopping, dining and entertainment in the near vicinity which has transformed the Stadium area of Glendale considerably in the last couple of years.

Fascinating how a concept that is failing in one region is taking off in another.

We just can't seem to work together. One reason is we have the country's highest property taxes, every town has its own emergency services, police and school districts, and we neglect our inner cities and force overcrowding to the suburbs due to an overbearing Mt. Laurel decision where developers rake in the $$$millions.

Well, I certainly was thinking of all of those things, as well as the fact that Arizona has quickly become a residential destination over the last few years, and will continue to, due to the generally lower taxes, cost of living (by comparison to NJ, despite all the Californians cashing out and moving to all mountain states as well as Texas), excellent paying jobs in hi-tech manufacturing, engineering, and more coming in. Weather is great with the exception of right now (NOTE: a "balmy" 110 degrees at rush hour traffic which is down from 117-118 we've been having the last couple of weeks). The Valley of the Sun still has plenty of opportunity to grow and, if done responsibly, will begin to overtake the top four (NOTE: PHX is #5 right now in population, I believe). Sports, especially MLB baseball (#1), college football; i.e. AZ State (#2A), pro football (#2B), NBA basketball (#3), pro soccer teams (#4), NHL left for Utah but may be back by the end of the decade, we'll see.

This region really hasn't been tested yet, as far as I've seen anyway, in terms of neighboring cities lending helping hands apart from emergency situations. Of course, Northern New Jersey, a place where I grew up, has been on top of each other long before I was born, and will likely continue that way long after we're all gone. But I get it. Everyone's protecting their own rice bowl and that's understandable. But getting the Meadowlands project right should have meant priority #1 defining the "right" requirements that would guarantee, in good times and in bad, the people will always come. Obviously, being a perennial winner wasn't an achievable requirement for either the Jets or the Giants, but facilitated transportation and "more weather friendly access" sure would have been thoughtful, as you described so well.

When you're young, you feel like you can handle the cold weather. Then you get on the north side of 50 and your body starts doing weird things it never did before and, all of a sudden, you realize you can't do those things anymore.

In the old days, the doctors told you to go west where the milder weather will be better for your lungs and breathing. For the most part, there's some truth in that. But you still have to adapt to four months of triple digits, or find your way up north in the Ponderosa Pines (most beautiful country where I take off work for two weeks every October to see the leaves change color).

I hope, next time, they get it right if the Giants embark on their own stadium and maybe move it somewhere a little more logistically easier for the fanbase. Question is will we still be alive to see the razing of the Sardine Can for Giants Stadium _Part Deux?
