Other than for optics, I have no idea why the Giants forced him to stay

I suspect he will be featured in an episode. Even Daboll was limited to a certain extent. As the AHC and apparently not calling the plays, he may be the buffer between Daboll and the other Coordinators and work directly with the coaching staff.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Quote from: Ed Vette on July 17, 2024, 05:12:07 PMSo many fans slammed Saquon, when the Giants never made the offer to at least match. Two years left on his career to make what is likely his last chance to provide for his family after football. The 26th highest-paid Eagle making less than Bradberry. The next three years his cap hit is 3.8 to 9.1 million and a lot of voided years. 26 Million guaranteed is basically a two-year deal but they could have done in three.

Joe Schoen didn't want to spend that money on that position. Especially an injury-prone player in a collision position. He knew what it was going to cost. Mara's concern was he was the most popular player on the team by far. He never meddled. Joe wanted JM as a partner if he was going to pay that high. When that call was made, he left it up to Joe.

Btw, anyone involved in negotiations should know that in most situations you bid to stay in the game so that if you want the player, you can give your highest and best. Joe knew pretty much what these players might cost. The Eagles decided to pay it forward. Joe decided to make his future self grateful that he was cap responsible.

That 12.5aav 25M GTD hail Mary Schoen throws out to Berry would have become a real legit offer had he responded differently. It was the ho hum response to it by the agent that makes Schoen eventually pull the plug. Had Berry answered a resounding yes I think that offer gets made. At least that is how I read the scene. In the end Barkley left for 1M GTD more then what he could have gotten to stay in Blue. That is how I will remember this whole debacle ending.

QuoteYou say, 'Hey, this is what he wants to be here,' we'll say, 'Yes, we'll do it,' or 'No, we won't' as I'm going through this. So 12.5 [million], you said? On a three-year? And then what'd you say the guarantee was? 25 [million] guaranteed. OK, so that's, if I offered him today a three-year deal at 12.5 [million] APY and 25 [guaranteed], he'd be a Giant? OK, alright, well I'll give you a call back, this may be above me on Saquon, but if I call you back and it's three for 12.5 APY and 25 guaranteed, there you go? We'll bring him down today, we'll fly you up, do a press conference. Alright, appreciate you, buddy."

QuoteSchoen on the phone with Mara: "Hey John, how're you doing? I talked to the agent, and the agreement all along was that he would come back to me with a chance to match it. ... I told the agent, I said if we match that deal, he's going to be a Giant. And he's like, 'Well...' You know, he hemmed and hawed, he's like, I'm not saying that, we've got a lot of work to do if that happens."

That is all I need to know. The Giants were prepared to go to 25GTD. The agents response told me that SB had no interest in coming back. He eventually settled for 26MGTD. SB left the Giants and gave up his spot in the ring of honor for 1M GTD

And a chance to win a super bowl.  And a chance to play behind an elite OL.  And a chance to play with an elite QB.  And a chance to play with 2 elite WRs.  I mean there's that too.  That and the extra money.

Yep all that too. Doesn't change how I feel about it though.

4 Aces

Something that jumped out at me: the influence prior experience has.

Take Chris Rossetti, the Giants Director of Pro Scouting, who came over from the Dolphins. Who were 2 of the top free agent targets?

Robert Hunt and Christian Wilkins. These guys really stick to who/what they know, which is understandable.

When I attempt to sign up for MAX it blocked over here.   Anyone know a German work around?

I was able to watch session one on YouTube but that got scotched

You need a VPN. I don't know all the different ones out there, but I used Express VPN the whole time I lived in London. It worked seamlessly. I still have it now, and it occasionally comes in handy. Absolute no-brainer to have one if you're an NFL fan living in Europe.
