It's a matter of when, not if.  18 games makes a lot more sense than 17 tbh.

Should have left it at 16. The greed knows no bounds.  :boooo:  :boooo:

While I would love more football , considering Injuries do happen..... Is this really a good thing ? We go what to a 2 game preseason ? Starters will be extremely rusty the first 2-3 weeks of a a season

President Rick

at least playing in a 'real' game v.s. PS counts for something.   anyway, we all saw this coming.  remember the 12 game season?   where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio....I mean Jim Brown!

Not to mention a watered down final month of the season while teams try to rest starters and a watered down playoffs due to added injuries sustained in the longer season.  4 game preseason and 16 games seemed perfect.

Baseball- 162 games  (16 x 10)
Hockey and basketball-  ~80 games (16 x 5)

Common denominator for all is 16....not sure why they changed it, other than greed  :boooo:

The problem is the NFL is a victim of their own success.  The more popular and profitable the NFL became, the more franchises became viewed as money-making businesses rather than a hobby for the well-off.   Business is all about growing revenue and that is what the NFL is focused on, even if it harms the game, the players, and the fans.

As with the last expansion of games, any cut down to the pre-season (which is where the 18th regular season game will have to come from) will hurt the bubble and depth players on the roster.

I dont think it's a good thing.  I agree with Tim that it should have been left at 16.  My comment was more about an even # of games makes more sense because teams at least have the same # of home and away games (minus the international games).

President Rick

good point about = home and away games.  Maybe not a big deal for some teams, i.e. with a less erratic wind situation in met life than in the old Giants Stadium, we don't ever seem to have a home advantage, but home field is very important for some teams  [dallas, SFran, vikes, to name just three]..

Preseason football is undervalued and even hated by some!
I personally enjoy preseason games as much as regular games. you get to watch draftees and other signings try hard to get noticed, make plays and advance in their careers; you also watch some new schemes by coaches, some players trying other positions and the team trying to shed the rust and play as a unit, ready for when it counts. They should not increase the number of regular season games at the expense of preseason.
If you ask me, they must increase the rosters by 3-4 extra players.

Great news.

The season flies by too quickly as it is, and this way you can just push everything out by a week and have the Super Bowl on the Sunday before Presidents Day.

Win win!

It's going to happen. The stars are aligned. What it tells me is the need and importance of a good bench, because the starters will need to ration their work load to get through a full season without breaking down towards the end. They should also expand the practice squad and also expand the number that can be protected. That is just my opinion
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing
