Just as bad

I think Waller was a failed gamble, more than a bad idea.  On the other hand, the Jets did something no well run team would do-  They traded for a player with contract issues, without an agreement in place before the trade.  That is simply unheard of.

Agreed, I think the situations are very different.

Sure, in hindsight, the Waller trade looks an absolute waste of a 3rd round pick. At the time, I think it was warmly approved of. I don't think anyone expected him to retire a year into it.

I suspect if Waller was able to stay relatively healthy last season and didn't have that infection health scare, he wouldn't have retired this season.

The Jets are as all-in this year as any team could be. As far as their 2024 fate, it's clearly more about how things go with Rodgers than anything else by miles. In my opinion their range of realistic outcomes this year is as wide as any team in the league and probably wider. They'll need to hit the low end of that range AND we'll need to materially better than expectations for the Jets to make us look "brilliant."

Haason Reddick is also a bit of an upgrade to Bryce Huff. The Jets are in high risk/high reward mode, so while I agree they look a bit silly right now, I can sort of see why they took a gamble with this guy thinking/hoping they could sort things out. They're going for high ceiling/low floor type moves right now, not stable, "safe" moves.

And yet, pff has their OL ranking going all the say to 5, from 31.  So maybe just looking at one move in isolation isn't all that useful?  All they have risked on Reddick so far is a 3rd round pick.

The Waller deal was way worse, IMO.  At least Reddick is coming off his 2 best years, in both of which he played all 17 games.  Unlike Waller, who was coming off his 2 worst years in which he played only 20 games and confirmed his status as injury prone.

I don't see any basis for Giants' fans dunking on the Reddick deal
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

Seriously. THe Giants with that QB at 40 mil a year and balloon-head Mara in charge -- we are in no position to cast stones. I would not be the least bit surprised if the Giants win 5 games this upcoming season. I would not be surprised if the Jets did that too but, I think the ceiling is way higher.

Jets 20-1
Giants 150-1

I would take 5 cents on the dollar to bet the Jets don't win the Super Bowl (Or make)

I think the big mistake was not signing Huff, a good young pass rusher who was ascending.  They would have kept the draft pick and avoided the headache.  When Roseman is at the other end of a transaction, he usually gets the better deal. I get this was not a single transaction, it really was.

As for the Giants, I have no idea what our record will be but I am convinced that the overall roster will be much better.  I think our front office is a good one even with the nepotism and weak ownership
