Daniel Jones went 8/14 in practice 1. Essentially everything within 8 yards outside of rollouts & Malik Nabers drop.

Drew Lock 5/8 with a tipped up INT by Boogie Basham. Only pass downfield was a great catch by Lawrence Cager but out of bounds

Giants Training Camp Day 1 thoughts

•Jermaine Eluemunor leaving practice while Evan Neal is on PUP sucks. Need him healthy no matter what happens with Neal
•Defense lived out of 2-high
•Offense was quick design to Wan'Dale Robinson or check down to the RB outside of a a few plays
•lots of motion in backfield or 12P. Script felt repetitive
•Liked Dyontae Johnson at LB & even got some 1st team reps

I guess we can now confirm Daniel Jones was ready for camp.

Check downs.  My two least favorite words.

Quick thoughts on the #Giants first training camp practice. Stay tuned to

- Daniel Jones received his full medical clearance and participated fully. Impressive, considering he's only eight months removed from ACL surgery. He took every first-team rep (as Brian Daboll said he would). That's the good. The bad: He looked very rusty. He misfired on several passes and was a touch slow on his progressions. He did move well within the pocket. I had him 7 of 12 passing, but only one of those completions was beyond 3-5 yards of the LOS.

- Daboll & Joe Schoen spoke before practice. Among the newsworthy items was that Jermaine Eluemunor would play RT with Evan Neal on PUP. This is surprising considering Eluemunor played G throughout OTAs & minicamp. Schoen said Neal should be back soon, so I'm not sure why you move Eluemunor over unless you're planning on keeping him there. At least that was the thought ... until Eluemunor went down. Looked like he hurt his midsection after taking an elbow from Dexter Lawrence. Not ideal. As Jones said himself: "The health of (the offensive line) can help everyone." The Giants cannot afford a repeat of last year where their front five was borderline unplayable.

- Greg Van Roten visited, but didn't sign (yet). I'm not sure why Justin Pugh isn't in training camp considering his G/T versatility. He's still a solid player.

- The starting OL before Eluemunor went down, from left to right: Andrew Thomas, Aaron Stinnie (not stinkie -- sorry for that typo earlier), John Michael Schmitz, Jon Runyan, Eluemunor. Josh Ezeudu replaced Eluemunor after his injury. Kayvon Thibodeaux beat him for a sack on his second rep of team drills.

- The Athletic's

asked what I felt was the best question of Schoen's presser: Will Jones' injury guarantee come into play at all this year? We've seen that throughout the league in recent years (Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, Russell Wilson). Essentially teams don't want to risk being on the hook for a ton of money if a player they want to move on from goes down, so they bench him to erase possibility of injury. Schoen didn't say no. Instead, he said they're taking things "day-by-day" and that would be a discussion for another time. Interesting.

- Wan'Dale Robinson caught all three of his targets from Jones. He's someone I'm sneaky high on this year. I believe he could be Jones' go-to, check down option.

- Linebacker-turned-safety-turned-linebacker Isaiah Simmons practiced with the cornerbacks on Wednesday. He could be an interesting option in jumbo nickel packages.

- There weren't many highlights. Lawrence Cager did make a very impressive catch for a touchdown down the left sideline. Drew Lock threw it. He could have a larger role than people expect this season after the retirement of Darren Waller. Boogie Basham had a pick-six on a tipped Lock pass, too.

- Rookie Malik Nabers dropped a potential 30-yard pass from Jones. The pass was a bit delayed and ball hung in the air.

- The Giants will have practices on Thursday and Friday, too, before Saturday's day off. An interesting wrinkle this summer: Daboll is only working his guys three straight days. The NFL allows four straight.

Day 1 of camp is always motion, gadget, and short game so don't panic just yet.
