Rich: What are the chances they'll try to sneak him onto the practice squad now that he has an injury? Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Right, but I'm asking your opinion on how big a risk, considering that he was un-drafted last year and plays a non-premium position and is relatively under the radar on the Giants.  To possibly narrow the issue down even more, how far under-the-rader do you consider him to be?  I'm asking you specifically because I know you read, watch, and investigate all things Giants a lot more than I do (these days). Johnson has leapt off the page. I hope he can recover quickly. He's very active in this scheme..flows well..shows good instincts.

Risky to float him.

What type of ankle sprain are we talking about?

That drives the recovery period as well as response to treatment. Not every sprain is the same nor is treatment standard for every type of sprain.

Without that knowledge, it will be hard to know how long he will be out.

Having graduated from the school of hard knocks, when it comes to ankle sprains during my collegiate sports times, the worst was a third degree in my right ankle, with likely fractures to the base of my tibia and fibula (NOTE: I say likely because I never had it examined, just played through it and rehabbed it through the team trainer), my grapefruit-sized ankle took about two months before I could begin to start running, three months before I could get back on the field to get conditioned to use it and six months before I could play again, but the ankle was heavily taped up for every practice and game. This was back in the Neanderthal code of competition in the 1980s. Thank goodness today's sporting world has evolved!

I wouldn't be surprised if he is back on the field, on the sidelines, working on his running and agility drills in a couple of weeks and back in the group in about three to four weeks unless it is a more serious sprain.

Peace!

If you waive him, you need to expect he will be claimed.  If he makes it to the PS you would consider that a lucky break
