I'd say they definitely game planned and definitely used some of their offense - case in point is we saw numerous times where Jones and others were looking at the iPad after their series. This indicates they were all business and not just being "vanilla"

People are arguing schemes
That isnt the problem
The problem is mental for D Jones
No schemes will fix that
How do you throw that interception in the end zone
That is a game killer
The one to Hyatt
You can correct
Which he did
But the one in the end zone
How do you correct that after 6 years

EDjohnst1981

Honestly, after 60 odd games can we just move Jones into the "show me, don't tell me folder"

I'm fed up of reading how well he's prepping or playing in practice.

Just. Show. Us.

I respect your point; however, unless you know precisely what they are looking at, and knew exactly what the conversation was about, it is very difficult to extrapolate precisely the context of what they were reviewing. It was no doubt a teaching moment and I believe we can all agree with that.

Historically, these pre-season games with the #1 units have some designed packages for them to execute. But the point is not to reveal anything in the playbook except maybe the basic plays and, perhaps, a few specialized plays they'll use during the season. Their intent is to get the #1 unit to sustain their drives and get in sync. From that regard, your points are certainly valid and your cause for concern is understandable.

As fans, we want the team showing confidence in their play and pre-season energy carries over into the regular season for about the first month, I'd say. So momentum is a good thing.

Jones definitely shook off a lot of rust yesterday and now has to get ready for the final pre-season game to clean his execution up.

Another 0-40 start to this season isn't a forgone conclusion just yet. There's still preparation before Opening Day Kickoff with the 100th Anniversay uniforms and festivities so the team will keep on preparing and let's see how they do in the final week of the pre-seaaon.

Peace!

In the PS games, coaches are not focused on winning or their opponent. They are focused on preparing their players and the team for the regular season.

Fair points.

I would ask one thing - if we weren't really scheming and trying to push it at a high level, why would the Giants take even a remote chance at running a handoff play to their #1 draft pick who is coming off a sprained ankle?

That to me indicates Dabol was really trying to get the offense in sync and I would submit if we compare the tape to the regular season games, I bet we see many of the exact same plays and routes

PS games are both preparation and experimentation (to see what will and will not work)

For the sake of believing what we see: Let's not call them interceptions...let's call his performance what it was; staring down receivers, waiting too long to release the ball and then making poor decisions.

This is year SIX....injury or no, should we not expect him to have moved on from all of this by now? (Speaking to those who continue to believe he can be a full-time starter).

Don't care that it's pre-season, and this COULD very well be shaking off his first start...but it also COULD be what he is.

How much longer should we be expected to wait?

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

Understood. But why in the world wouod u risk injury to a wr who has a bad ankle?....that makes zero sense unless dabs was seriously trying to win and score

I think one has to assume that Nabers was cleared by the medical staff.

Most very but running a play like that is clearly one I wouldn't expect out of a basic vanilla offense (just my opinion)

Quote from: Ed Vette on August 18, 2024, 09:17:42 AMIt doesn't matter that this was a preseason game. If they start any game the way they did yesterday, their odds of winning are significantly diminished. If that was Dallas, that game is a blowout.

This was his first game action in months coming off 2 major injuries.

His start to the game was awful, for sure. No one is denying it. The pick-six was a total brain fart. No doubt.

But as Mighty said, he settles in quite nicely thereafter and made some real good throws. He drove the team downfield to two straight scoring drives, made some good deep throws, and seemed to get in a solid rhythm.

If he starts game 3 with more brain farts, then I'll maybe worry a bit more. But if he can build on the positive momentum he ended game 2 with, then we might have reason to expect an improved offense this year if the OL can keep it up and given the improved talent at WR.

I agree with you that we will see some of the plays, as well as "counterplays" off those we may see.

As for Nabers' sprained ankle, it must have been minor if he was able to execute his plays yesterday. Hopefully he made it through without further damaging it. But he had to give Daboll a thumbs' up that he could run it as well as the medical staff clear him.
