Dabs retains his job.

If Dabs develops some UDFAs and maybe some late rounders but early picks like Neal, JMS and maybe Banks flop or are major disappointments, would Mara hang that on Schoen?  What about DJ blowing in 2024 with that big contract?

Any scenario?

Giant Obsession

Worry not, Dabs will be gone by midseason.

Schoen has now had THREE drafts and FA seasons to build the rest of this team, giving him a temporary pass on DJ regarding this statement.  He has failed miserably thru the draft and get a D minus for FA.

Now....taking away that temporary pass regarding DJ.....and this is a basic reflection on his ability to judge talent, both the draft and DJ.   DJ should have been jettisoned completely after his 4 years.  Many of us on here could see he just ain't got it between the ears involving decision making.  And that leads to his inability to deliver the ball in position for large gains.

So Shoen must go.

Dabs developing this talent to any level beyond 6 wins will not happen.  He is ANOTHER rookie HC we have had the displeasure of being thrust upon us.

But we got some real exciting talent at WR courtesy of the draft.  Oh joy a player who will maybe on a good day touch the ball 6-8 times in a game will lift us to the upper echelon. Ask Matt Millen how that worked out in Detroit.  This franchise just does not pay attention and learn regarding their profession.

3 - 5 wins this year.
A new regime to talk about all off season.

Trust the process.
Yeah, right.
Garbage in..garbage out.

Amazing that garbage can worth nearly 8 billion dollars.

I can't imagine a scenario where the GM is fired but the coach he hired is retained.

It's not the same as a new coach inheriting someone else's QB, like Daboll and Jones.

If Schoen is fired and Dabs is retained in some distorted, alternate reality, it would be very difficult to find a GM to build and develop chemistry with the HC.

We have positivity.
1. 3 WR
2. Gano
3. Singletary
4. Our DL which even has some quality depth

Like I said... 3 to 5 wins.
And the possibility of ANOTHER new rebuild

I like Daboll but my opinion of him is that he's a McAdoo with a personality. He's an excellent Offensive Coordinator, play caller, and QB Guru. He lacks the big picture vision and attention to detail required of a Head Coach. He's still here to save Daniel Jones. The opposite will hold true. Schoen can survive Daboll.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

I can't imagine a situation where Schoen is fired but Daboll stays. Saddling a new GM with an existing head coach always feels like a bad idea.

I generally don't engage in predictions.  That said, I would be surprised if this season results in talks of firings.  I have a feeling the team will do better than their 6.5 wins over/under

Unless the cheese slides all the way off the cracker both men will be back in 2025. Mara said, quite clearly, that we can't keep changing coaches every three years. Given the fact that he hasn't had a NFL caliber starting quarterback it's hard to pin much of this on him. Schoen has made some really questionable decisions it's hard to argue that he hasn't improved this roster. We are more talented at every position group with the exception of running back and maybe safety since he replaced Gettleman.

As long as John Mara keeps his hands in the soup, it really doesn't matter who the GM OR HC IS.

With ONE exception:

I would take Bellichick this offseason for one reason and ONE REASON ONLY...He's one of few for whom Mara would get out of the way and keep his mouth shut.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

What do you mean by "hands in the soup"? Mara has stated he allows his people to make decisions on their own. This was corroborated in Hard Knocks.

He's the owner and has every right to his opinion regarding personnel decisions. But it all comes down to what Schoen and his staff want to do.

Just curious what your take is on the 2022 season. The Giants ended up winning 10 games and surprised a heavily favored 14-3 Vikings team. Jones was superb running the offense despite the fact his best receiver was a practice squad player and his OL was shaky.

Things were looking up and Jones deserved every penny of a contract that was commensurate with a starting QB in the league. The Giants had a lot of optimism for 2023. But they had no shot with early games against Miami, San Francisco, Buffalo, Philly and Dallas. Throw in the collapse of the OL, especially losing Thomas and Barkley, then the loss of Jones and you had a recipe for an awful season.

We have a LT too.

I would be really surprised if Schoen was fired after this year.  A lot more surprised if he was fired and Daboll was kept as HC.  I just cannot see that type of scenario without Schoen acting out of character and doing stuff that would force ownership to make that move...Like illegal things or cursing out John Mara in front of the others....Things that I  think have virtually a zero probability.

I do think if the team has 6 or less wins this season Daboll will probably be gone.

Philosophers

I agree but I wanted to ask the board.

The team does have more talent overall then when DG was let go.  Better cap situation as well.  We need better QB play and for position groups to gel.
