Giants are not ready for 2024 season

On the 100th anniversary of the team, it's nice to recap those years of horror (though as a young fan, I still loved them). The Mara's though pioneers in the league, were never the most forward thinking owners. That trait remains to the detriment of the team and its fans.

As much as I like and respect your comments, there is nothing nice about recalling those years. They were painful to live thru and they are still painful to recall.

Is it possible that Earl asked to be traded as soon as I saw that Tark was the #1 and he rarely gets hurt? Back then you couldn't just count down the days to free agency. You had to have your agent work some magic.

Morrall was Tarkenton's backup in '67. Teams had the upper hand in those days, so there was no reason for them to give him away. Just another example of how poorly the team was run in those days.

But Tark missed a grand total of 1 game his entire time with the Giants, probably because no one could catch him. What difference would it make to keep an unhappy Morrall as his backup beyond that 67 season when you could get players in return? Morrall would have never played outside of blowouts. Yes the teams had the the reserve clause which gave them the upperhand which lead to player holdouts and agents requesting trades for the benefit of their clients.

Because they are preparing for the season and Daniel and the Oline desperately need the gametime reps.  Disaster can strike early in the first regular season game as well, cf. Aaron Rodgers.

That's understandable but then we have fans in another thread so afraid of using anyone but the least valuable speed player as our returner which is why we routinely have a horrible return game giving up valuable field position.

No one knew Tarkenton would only miss 1 game in 4 years (benched the last game of his last season). The Giants got nothing back for Morrall. Would he have been happy as Griese's backup if he didn't get hurt that year? The Giants traded away a future Super Bowl winning QB, who was the 2nd pick of the 1956 draft, for TE Butch Wilson who was waived after 2 seasons and hardly played for the Colts or Giants. Part of the long list of blunders during those years. As a side note, Craig Morton was the losing QB in the only Super Bowl Morrall won.

And I've been adamantly against that, as well.  Given my druthers I'd have Nabers returning punts.  Dieon Sanders was an all pro CB and he returned punts.  One of the bad side effects of the injury history is the over protectiveness attitude that has infused the franchise and its fanbase.  Which has done nothing to reduce injuries.
