They should have benched him at halftime. Once they didnt do that they REALLY should have benched him after the pick 6. The fact that they didnt tells us a lot and none of it's good.

Either he's actually the best option (seemingly impossible) or Daboll is trying to make a point. To mara or Schoen or anybody at all that still thinks Jones isn't exactly who he's shown us to be.

They should not repeat mistakes. If this team is...sorry...WHEN this team is 0-4 or 1-5 they need to take Jones off the field to avoid injury trade away anything they can actually get an offer for outside of the core of course and do everything in their power to get the #1 pick in the draft. That becomes the priority. Because if they just run Jones out there for 17 games everybody could get fired.

At some point, they need to think about the injury guarantee and the implications of that moving forward.

If they decide they are moving on at the seasons end, there's no point in risking injury so he may as well sit. There is no point doubling down on a bad financial decision and just trot him out week after week.

I don't envisage that comes before week 5. However, after next week the schedule gets much harder with the Browns, Cows and Seahawks. I expected them to start 2-0 then steal one of those games. After yesterday 1-4 or 0-5 are a distinct possibility.

If we keep playing him he will only get hurt and trigger his injury guarantee. Have him inactive, activate De Vito game days. Give Lock first go. Honestly the fewer games we win the better given we need to acquire a new QB next offseason. If Bowen, Burns, Thibodeaux can get their collective act together at least the D might round itself into shape over the season and give us something palatable to watch.

DJ's injury clause is a concern. Look at how fast the Broncos..when they were cooked last year.. mothballed Russel Wilson with his. This is a must-win for Daboll...say they will start him next week, but a very short leash.

That should be apparent today.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

Unfortunately, the math says otherwise regardless of what the reality and our eyes tell us.

coggs: It's a good joke.  :ok:
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

There is no point.  The team was built to succeed or fail with Jones at QB.  Lock and Tommy are there to protect Jones as the starter.

The team was not prepared for the opener again and this year was a very winnable game to start the season. Jones should have played the whole preseason to prepare because you can not simple turn it on in the regular season if you have never been able to do so in past.

Jones made so many rookie mistakes that the footage is completely horrid. Even without benefit of the ALL22, what you can see is a nightmare.  A complete and utter embarrassment.

Guy couldn't start on any other team in the NFL and honestly top colleges wouldn't have him.

The sacks were almost exclusively all on him.

The INTs were absolutely horrible.

If he isn't staring down a receiver, which matters, he is only looking at one side of the field.

He has zero pocket presence and creates sacks like he is looking for them. He cannot read the line of scrimmage at all, period.

I have but will not waste my time providing examples of plays yesterday to point all of this out.

Jones has no business at all period playing another down in the NFL. He has gotten worse the past three seasons.  No team will ever win with him as the NFL game is too fast, too complex and he is overwhelmed.

This is the first time I have ever said this before maybe even December but the season is done.

And considering the Giants have only even come close to hitting on 3 1st round picks in the past 20 years (OBJ, Thomas and Lawernce) I am not even excited about a top 3 pick.

I would do it now. Washington has a weak D, and its a road game with no angry fans, so it should be a good place to let Lock get his feet wet (or DeVito, Tannyhill). If they trot out Jones again it just shows the fans, and the players, that the coaching staff isn't concerned with winning

Quote from: kingm56 on September 08, 2024, 09:40:44 PMIn other threads, we talked about benching DJ; initially, I thought that was unfair and argued we should stick with him for at least two or three more games.  However, after reviewing DJ's last 8 games, the Giants are completely justified to bench DJ now, or during the Wash game.

1. DJ hasn't thrown a TD pass in 7 of 8 games
2. In 6 of 8 games, he failed to eclipse 200 yards passing
3. Removing the Oak Game (he didn't finish the entire game), his averages are:
   20 Comp 31 Att 64% .28 TDs 1.3 INTs 64 RTG
4. This isn't about one game, DJ has been historically bad for half a season.

OUCH!!!!.....I think it's fair to say Jones is the worse Giants starting QB ever. Worse than Dave Brown!

Gmo11

Jones used to have the speed and athleticism to run for yardage.  Since he had interest in throwing the ball deep yesterday he had ample opportunities to use his legs. He chose to take sacks instead. All that to say pre-injury Jones was better than Brown. The guy we saw yesterday was not.

I was unaware of the implications of DJ being injured.  With that information, I think they should give him the first half next week and yank him if he's still throwing inaccurate 7 yard passes. In fact if he's making egregious errors after two possessions, yank him and don't ever let him back.

Quote from: Ed Vette on September 08, 2024, 10:34:49 PMThat said, I wonder how much of this bad showing is poor preparation for a QB who missed half the season and had about a quarter of game time since his injury via a preseason game.

This.  I don't know if it would have made a difference at all, but it was a ridiculous decision by Daboll.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

I would tend to agree, IF his previous 8 games didn't produce the exact outcome.  When you throw more pick sixes than TDs, in half a season of work, you're a historically bad passer.

Still, I agree with your overall point and I expect DJ and the Giants to show better in Wash. We are, however, quickly approaching the end game for DJ.  I think H-Town was spot-on; he'll be replaced if the the Giants go 0-3 or 1 - 4, which seems highly likely given thier schedule. The Browns, Cowboys, Bengals and Eagles games could be an absolute beatdown...
