Quote from: todge on September 09, 2024, 11:17:57 AMWas Jones over his head in 2022? The Giants won a road playoff game and Jones was the best player on the field. I just don't understand how a statement "for six consecutive years, we basically have a rookie.." is valid. But would like your explanation.

Yes, he was in over his head which he proved the following week against the Eagles when he threw for 135 yards on 27 attempts. He's a pitiful QB who doesn't deserve to wear a Giants uniform any longer.

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 09, 2024, 09:09:43 AMJJ McCarthy-  IR for the year
Penix and Maye- Did not play, coach's decision

Caleb Williams (vs Titans)  14/29 93 yards 0/0 TD/INT: 5 for 15 yards rushing 22.2 QBR 55.7 QB rating (2 sacks)

Jayden Daniels (vs Bucs) 17/24 184 yards 0/0 TD/INT: 16 for 88 yards 2 TDs rushing 41.8 QBR 93.1 QB rating (2 sacks)

Bo Nix (vs Seahawks) 26/42 138 yards 0/2 TD/INT: 5 for 35 yards 1 TD rushing 30.1 QBR 47.5 QB rating (2 sacks)

Since at least Nix, Penix, and JJ were all alternatives to DJ, here are DJ's numbers

Daniel Jones (vs Vikings) 22/42 186 yards 0/2 TD/INT; 6 for 15 yards rushing 17.4 QBR 44.3 QB rating (5 sacks)

Rich - thank you for this original post.  I love a comparison like this but also to track the rookie QBs and compare between them.  Great post.

Quote from: T200 on September 09, 2024, 11:22:20 AMFirst, Jones was NOT the best player on the field. It's always been Barkley, offensively.

The playbook was drastically limited to dink and dunk passes and heavy doses of Saquon. Let's also not forget that the defense kept games close so they wouldn't have to rely on the offense to win the game.

The Giants were second to Minny in winning one-score games.
Viking playoff game stats - Jones 300 yards passing, 80 yards running. Barkley - 58 yards rushing and a non factor. That was indicative of the Giant wins that year.

The playbook was limited to dunk and dunk for two reasons: first, opposing defenses kept on using a two deep zone that took away any long passes (just like yesterday). That forced the Giants to limit WR throws to the intermediate and short routes. Second - the playbook was limited because Daboll didn't trust (justifiably so) the OL to hold up for enough time needed.

PFF rated Jones as one of the best long throwers (over 20 yards) in the league over a five year stretch. This notion that Jones can't throw a pass over 20 yards is not supported by any facts.

Quote from: kingm56 on September 09, 2024, 11:30:33 AMIt amazes me there are still a few posters who continue to view 2022 in an utter vacuum.  Focusing on passing production, DJ still produced a bottom 5 offense, which he/the Giants compensated with an impressive running performance.  Without the latter, DJ is a below average QB, making his and the Giants trajectory easily forecasted.    When you consider the 61 game aggregate, he is WELL below the mean; yes, he's had a handful of stella games against bottom 5 defenses, including the 2022 Minn performance.  Mitch Trubisky was a pro bowler, 2x NFC player of the week and made the playoffs.  Based on your comment, can I assume you believe he should be a starting NFL QB?

Eli Manning was the last Giants QB to throw form more than 3500 yards in a season, and that was 6 years ago.  In the NFL's golden passing era, DJ and the Giants simply can't pass the ball.  If the Giants are going to compete in the modern era, they're going to have to increase thier passing production by 30%, which is no small task.
Sounds like you are more interested in producing fantasy football stats than you are winning actual football games.

Every team was dominated by the Eagles until the Super Bowl.

Maybe, at the 100,000 ft. level, the point is the Giants should be penalized 100 years of future #1 draft picks if they ever pick another QB from Duke in the first round again. That scoop of grits seems to stick to the wall when you throw it.

:what:

Peace!

Does Riley Leonard count if he is now at Notre Dame? Nevermind, I don't want to find out.

It sounds like you're the one who isn't interested in winning actual football games. The Daniel Jones era has been a disaster.

What  are you talking about? If anything, the data indicates DJ is a QB you can't win with.  Thus, to continue with him is an indication you're not concerned with winning.   He's neither a good fantasy QB, or a good QB in general.

You clearly don't understands the maturation of the league and how football has fundamentally changed.  Outside of 2017, how many game manager QBs have won super bowls in the past 2 decades ? In the modern NFL, it's about pass production and/or dynamic offenses.  You seem to be stuck in the 80/90s.

You must be comfortable with being wrong; you seem to have a knack for it, when it comes to football analysis.
Daniel Jones is not just a QB you can't win with. He's a national joke. Everyone is laughing at him/us.

Here's Brady explaining why he has to hold back on his criticism of guys like Jones.

It blows my mind that we're still litigating that 2022 season. The biggest thing I notice in these Jones debates is that the pro side just leans on the talent around him and the hope that it will all just click one day if everything around him is in place. But there is never any mention about what he does well. The con side focuses on what he actually does on the field. His slow processing, poor pocket presence and being purely a one read QB.

At the end of the day, pretty much everyone recognizes that Daniel Jones is not an NFL caliber starting QB besides an ever shrinking population of Giant fans.

People can say whatever the hell they want, but it amazes me that some people are still clinging to this bizarre agenda to try to defend Jones at all costs and somehow whitewash his unconscionably horrific play. Were people not watching yesterday? Good lord, are you kidding me?

Do people have some sort of a Daniel Jones thing? Is that where their allegiance is? Or is their allegiance to the NY Giants and for this team to start consistently winning?

I'm stunned.
